No Man's Land: What to Do When Your Company Is Too Big to Be Small but Too Small to Be Big 4 reviews Doug Tatum
Portfolio Hardcover, 2007
If you have ever tried to build and grow a small business you will understand how good this book is. In this book "no man's land" is that volatile time a small business experiences during rapid growth. Basically, there are three things that can happen. The small business retreats from the kind of growth that would transform the business and remains a successful small business. This is the kind of choice made by the businesses described by Bo Burlingham as "Small Giants". The business might ...

Small is Possible: Life in a Local Economy 3 reviews Lyle Estill
New Society Publishers, 2008
A "Wendell Berry of Chatham" Yesterday, I received a copy of Lyle Estill's newest book, Small Is Possible. I came home at 2:30, put on some easy-going clothes, lay down on the couch on the porch, read until 8, took a half hour off, then finished the book. I could not put it down. This is a wonderful reclaiming of the recent history of events in our county, Chatham.
The chapters are contained by writing on one subject in ...

God Is in the Small Stuff and It All Matters: Stop Worrying and Invite God into the Details of Your Life ... 4 reviews Bruce & Stan
Barbour Publishing, Incorporated, 2004
Great book! This book did a really good job in describing why God truly is in the small stuff. These guys talk about various aspects of life, such as parenting, marriage, faith, the Word of God, managing money, being a listener, being an encourager, etc. I especially liked the "proverbs" at the end of each chapter, with the various words of wisdom pertaining to each topic. I really enjoyed this book.

Keeping God in the Small Stuff: Devotions for Every Day (God is in the Small Stuff) 5 reviews Bruce Bickel, Stan Jantz
Barbour Publishing, Incorporated, 2000
Start your day thinking about God I got this book several months ago and I look forward to reading it every morning before I start my day. It serves to establish a certain mindset that keeps God in the forefront throughout the day. It is very interesting in that it seems to "speak" to various things going on in my life as if each page were written directly to me at that moment. It is easy to read and is not "preachy." I hope ...

What Matters Most: How a Small Group of Pioneers Is Teaching Social Responsibility to Big Business, and Why ... 8 reviews Jeffrey Hollender, Stephen Fenichell, 2004
This book matters a lot. This review is an adaptation of my review published in Personnel Psychology, Winter 2004 issue.
As one of the pioneers in the corporate social responsibility (CSR) movement, Hollender is evangelical about promoting the implementation of CSR "in all of its forms." I'm not sure I know what he means by that. As he acknowledges, it's in the "mind of the beholder" because there's "no firm ...

When Least Is Best: How Mathematicians Discovered Many Clever Ways to Make Things as Small (or as Large) as ... 6 reviews Paul J. Nahin
Princeton University Press, 2007
More would be better ! Mr. Nahin states in his preface that 1st year undergraduate math and physics is enough to manage "a lot of mathematics in this book." He is fairly on the mark, discounting my comments about chapter six below. As usual, the reader must keep pencils and scrap paper ready to fully appreciate this book. I hoped to find a book based on applications of math and physics, an engineer's approach. This ...

A delightful book This book makes children feel like they are going on a trip to Antarctica. The pictures are clear and vibrant. The story follows the pictures nicely giving a great visual aid to learning. The facts and glossary in the back also help a child learn more and re-enforce what they have read throughout the book.

Instruction Manual for College After deciding to become a Sociology major in my junior year, I rummaged through my roommates books trying to find a book that I could use in one of my classes. I read this book because of its unique title: God knows how many "required books" I've had to read in my lifetime. It's like a Chicken Soup for the College Student Soul and an easy and must read for any college student deciding on a ...

Accounting, Finance and Presentation for Small Business: Commerce is King 1 review R Blake Hendrix
iUniverse, Inc., 2007
Finance Primer for Small Business Owners This book is an essential read for anyone starting or running a small business. A very high percentage of small businesses fail. In part, this high failure rate stems from not understanding the money side of business and taking full advantage of banks and investors. Hendrix provides an important foundation. He does not focus on preventing failure but rather on enabling success. The main point is ...

although widely practiced improvisation is seldom discussed If you are curious about improvisation by white musicians it seems there is not much to read. The world of jazz usually absorbs all the discussion. Well maybe the reason is the music Mr.Prevost performs with AMM is not entirely marketable materials. AMM is a London based ensemble began in the late Sixties. What we find in "No Sound is Innocent" is the thoughts, reflections on the experience in ...

Corporations spend thousands of dollars teaching employees how to best present their products; now Mary ...

Looking for a great women's bible study? This is the best bible study I have done so far in my christian life. Usually I start out strong and then wane, but I kept at this - all on my own even - and have really grown from it. Each chapter has great thoughts to think about - good scripture references. At the end of every chapter are thoughtful questions: 5 questions for each of the 5 days. There are 10 chapters in all:
1. The power ...
