Reeking Royals (Smelly Old History)1 review
Mary Dobson

Oxford University Press, USA, 1999

Smelly Old History
All of Mary Dobson's "Smelly Old History" books are an excellent way for elementary students to learn history and take whiffs of the many foul smells along history's timeline. The kids get so excited to smell the next foul smell they forget they are learning historical facts as they go. My first grade boy loves the books, but loves scratching the smells best. Some of the facts are a bit beyond ...

Judith Anne Rice

Redleaf Press, 2002

Germs beware!
This is an excellent book for introducing kids as young as 3 to the concept of germs and the use of sanitary precautions. It's a wonderful pre-school teachers aid to bathroom ettiquete and a good tool for parents. The illustrations are wacky and colorful but the message is clear & direct. It's a must for all early ed teachers and a great gift to your local preschool ! Enjoy!

My Dog is As Smelly As Dirty Socks: And Other Funny Family Portraits3 reviews
Hanoch Piven

Schwartz & Wade, 2007

Awesome kids book - this is a must for your children's collection
I read this book at Border's while waiting for the 7th Harry Potter book to be released at midnight. My son (10 years old) and It thought it was really a great book. In the book, a little girl uses objects to "draw" her family. For instance....Poor Schmutz, her dog, is as "stinky as one onion" (pictured as his tail), "as nasty as canned fish" (his front paws), "as icky as pepperoni" (his ...

Shiny, Touch, Smelly Colors (Shiny, Touchy, Smelly)2 reviews
Dawn North

Make Believe Ideas, 2006

Cute, engaging &, educational
This book is great. Both of my kids love it. I don't know why it says it's for ages 4-8, since It's a collage-type picture book. There are some words in the collages, but nothing that is necessary to read in order to enjoy this book. I think it's perfect for the 1-2 year old. (Would make a great 1st birthday gift.) This book was a big part of teaching my kids colors because each page ...

Good, the Bad, and the Smelly2 reviews
Chris Rumble

Topeka Bindery, 2004

Hilarious!!
This book is the most original children's book I've read in years. Everything about it is funny, especially all of the little pictures and captions throughout the book. I would say this book is better than the Captain Underpants series. If you like him, you'll definitely like Uncle Stinky!

Boys Are Smelly: Laurie And The Summer Of New Beginnings1 review
Joyce Marie Taylor

CreateSpace, 2008

Great for Pre-Teens
I just finished reading this book, my children are older now, if this book would have been available when they were younger I am sure they both would have enjoyed reading it. The story of Laurie & Chuck (Chuckles) is very inspiring for kids reaching their teens. With society today I think this book should be available for all kids to read.

The Great Smelly, Slobbery, Small-Tooth Dog: A Folktale from Great Britain1 review
Margaret Read MacDonald

August House, 2007

ideal story for kindergartners!
I had the chance to purchase this book by Margaret Read MacDonald--one of my fav authors--at the National Storytelling Festival, and my granddaughter just loves it. So do I, because it communicates traditional values in a subtle way. And because the illustrations are gorgeous. I'm buying more to give to new parents in my church.

Tudor Odours (Smelly Old History, Scratch N Sniff Your Way Through the Past)2 reviews
Mary Dobson

Oxford University Press, USA, 1997

Smells like Tudor spirit
If you've got a "nose for news", (like we do at the Tudor Times), then this is for you. I do actually own a copy, but, it's still safe in the clear plastic wrapper. "Stinking Streets, riddled with rats and plague"... "Sailors on the high seas"..."Revolting Royals", and more. Just reading the back cover sends me straight to a clove studded orange. Part of the "Smelly Old History" series: ...

Junie B is a riot. Having most of the books already, this is the perfect companion so we can follow along with the story as its being read.

Smelly Socks8 reviews
Robert Munsch

Cartwheel, 2005

Loved Smelly Socks
My family has always loved Robert Munsch's book " I Have to Go". My 4yr old liked to read it so much he brought it into the bath with him. Needless to say we had to replace it and that is when I saw all the other stories that Robert has. I bought several of his books and I have to say that "Smelly Socks" is one of our favorites. I think my son asked me to read it everynight for 1 week straight!!!!

Margie Palatini

Smelly Tales (Desert Critter Friends)1 review
Mona Gansberg Hodgson

Concordia Publishing House, 1998

Desert Critters love their friendly skunk
Mona G. Hodgson creates Desert Critter adventures which reach out to children and hold their interest. In this adventure Rosie the skunk is crushed when her friends run away from her because of her smell. Then later she saves the day". Like real children, these kids say hurtful things but then make-up with Rosie. While the critters plan a new club house, Mona tells us little bits of true ...

The Smelly Mystery: Little Monster Private Eye (Little Monster)2 reviews
Mercer Mayer

Inchworm Press, 1998

A great book
I read this book to my nephews, five and three yesterday afternoon. Of the two books I read at our secret story telling bridge this one was a real winner, the illustrations are wonderful and my nephews could not wait to see what happened as we turned over the pages. After we finished the book my older nephew sat and looked through the pages by himself for ages. While the younger was enthralled ...

Smelly Bill1 review
Daniel Postgate

North-South / Night Sky Books, 2007

Hilarious text and drawings
This is one my favorite bedtime books for my 4 year old - A great rhyme, very funny (to both of us). Bill's glee in his dirtiness is infectious and his struggle with the obsessively clean dogsitter is captivating while simple. It may be out of print in the US which is suprising -- I'd think it would achieve close to classic status among the nursery school set.

Junie B. Jones and the Stupid Smelly Bus72 reviews
Barbara Park

Scholastic Inc., 1998

The perfect bridge to chapter books
Barbara Park has written the perfect series for young readers to make the leap from picture books to chapter books. My daughter is an advanced reader for her age, and these were ideal for her. No other chapter books have been simple enough to read and have held her attention long enough for her to make the transition, but Stupid Smelly Bus fit the bill. The chapters are short, yet each tells its ...
