Cornwell is the best!
For those of you who have faithfully read the entire Sharpe series, and all the other series, you know full well that Bernard Cornwell is a master author who never fails to fully involve you in everything he writes. I've read other reviews about his books, and such carping, such trifling squabbles over insignificant details always amazes me. I have no trouble believing that any of those peole ...

This is an important book
The "Nightingales's Song" is a remarkable story. I know three of the five characters, (McCain, McFarlane, and Webb), and truly admire them all. This book is a great piece of reporting, and is more relevant today than it was when it was first published. Admiral Jim Stavridis, still on the front lines of history, and a wonderful writer as well, said this book is a, "Greek tragedy," and is, "no ...

Bird watcher dream
I recently sent this book to a relative that lives in the south east of Montreal in Quebec. The birds are the same as the ones in Vermont which is only 30 minuts from her home. She was d elighted with the book and the recording. She did comments that the birds songs were the same as heard in her neiborhood, which is Sherbrooke area. I had again look for quite a while and finally found it in ...

The Franks Homer
An utter epic that deserves to be read by anyone with an intrest in either literature or history. Although there is controversy over the exact historical accuracy of this classic poem, it is based around the Charlemagne's campaigns against the Muslims in Northern Spain, around the late eighth century. It reads like a Frankish iliad, real events draped in myth. The poem has it all: ...

An amazing read
I got completely caught up in this book, and stayed up much later than I should have most nights to get further in it. You get completely sucked in to the gritty world and the characters' struggles. I could not put this book down. Anyone who loves post-apocalyptic books should definitely give this a read.

A Journey Through Disordered Thinking
"Songs Without Words," by Ann Packer, is a realistic novel dealing with the interior lives of five members of an extended suburban American family during a period of prolonged psychological crisis. This contemporary Bay Area family consists of two branches. The more normal and apparently contented Palo Alto branch consists of Liz, Brody, and their two teenage children, Joe and Lauren. Across the ...

Masterpiece [25]
Morrison's "Song of Solomon" encapsulates her strongest skills into one novel. The story line is unparalleled - it eclipses even some of her other highly acclaimed pieces like "Sula" or "Beloved." The dialect delivered by the people is equal to that shown in "Jazz" or "Beloved." And, her weaving of the story lines throughout the pages of the novel, sews the novel's fabric or philosophies ...

The story is great i love how the chapters are really people perspective during the time. You can see how one person or side is thinking and then vice versa. There are many characters i love and hate and love to hate. I can not wait till his next book comes out. I LOVE this book and i tell everyone i know to read it.

Harvey Fierstein - Genius
Ever since seeing him accept the Tony for his adaptation of "La Cage" I have had a tremendous admiration for the sheer creative genius of Harvey Fierstein. But "Torch song Trilogy" has got to be the icing on the cake; the cream on the top of Mt. Everest; the spark that set off Guy Fawlks Day on the 5th of November in London! And as if the tale wasn't enough, that fantastic narration by Mr. ...

Would compare to Tolkien only because there'es noone better to compare to
Great book, great author great, series. This is one of the best high fantasy author's I have read in quite some time. I can only compare to Tolkien the work is exceptionally complete, all the sub stories wrap together with pure beauty. The kind of books you can't put down till there none left I have already ordered the pre-release on the next book.

Wonderful book.
I personally do not like any of John Glen Paton's writings, so I probably will not buy his book even if it does contain translations. This book however is great, but I would suggest that the teacher and student focus on building vocal technique through progressive vocal exercises and even some Vaccai before attempting the songs in this book. This is not a book I would recommend for the early ...

Don't worry, it does get better once we pass this part of the quest...
I wanted to read the entire series before reviewing this and confirming that it is the worst volume in the series, and it is...perhaps this was deliberate on king's behalf to make the last one seem even better, who knows? This book is essentially an 'add on' to Wolves of the Calla and the whole story could have genuinely been cut down to 50 pages and put at the end of the last volume... As ...

Bird Songs from Around The World
I was very disappointed in this book it wasn't at all like I was lead to believe, I live in a public restroom in Svalbard and expected to see and hear more birds common to Svalbardean public toilets, really it was a total waste of money.

Toddlers Love This - Trust Me!
I know it's hard to believe but toddlers love this DVD. I know it's so 80's and the production quality makes it look like a senior project (that's senior in high school, not college). But kids just go nuts for it, I don't know why. I think it's the guy's voice, plus I think the songs are relatable for a toddler. It's just perfect for that age. It was my brother-in-law's favorite VHS as a kid ...

Excellent for children
Accidentally on Purpose: A One-Night Stand, My Unplanned Parenthood, and Loving the Best Mistake I Ever Made This bird book is an excellent choice for children and first time birders. The descriptive text gives enough "serious" information without being overwhelming, as many bird books are. Moreover the recorded bird sounds are great. Children, with their vast memories, are fascinated by it. ...

"It's not the sentiments of men which make history but their actions" - Mailer
It just starts - no throat-clearing, no overture, no vamping-until-ready. Coming from a writer who had made his reputation slamming doors and banging about the house, leaving the television on in one sentence while simultaneously yelling abuse at the radio and bashing out power chords in another, this was of course a surprise. Also a relief and a delight. The flatness and tight-lipped quiet of ...
