The Field Guide (The Spiderwick Chronicles, Book 1)138 reviews
Holly Black

Simon & Schuster Children's Publishing, 2003

An excellent series for the little ones.
Finally a series of books that is fun, positive and cute as a gnome's nose! Set in an old Victorian home, the three Grace children must cope with the absence of their father, the strains of moving and a very peculiar housemate. The Grace household is believable and the sibling rivalry and arguments are as real as any I have had with my own brothers and sisters. Beneath all the realism lurks a ...

Fantastic Field Guide
My boys, ages 9 and 6 have enjoyed reading the Spiderwick Chronicles, but when I gave them the Field Guide, they were over the moon. Holly Black and Tony DeTerlizzi bring the characters and fantasy come to life. My boys actually reference this guide while going on nature walks, enjoying imaginary trolls and faeries! If your child likes the series or the movie, this is a great addition!

Spiderwick Chronicles - boxed set of 5 books
After we watched the movie, my daughter wondered why there needed to be a field guide for so few mythological creatures. She was right!!! The movie cut out so many main elements and characters, that the books were a welcome relief to know the story that the authors actually intended to share. The size and storage box make them truly easy to join my other collectables.

Goblins Awakening
The characters in the story are three kids Mallory, Simon, and Jared. They moved into a new house, that was their aunt's old house. The story builds up with each book because there are five books. At the end of each book, it begins a new book which is my favorite; it makes me want to read more. This book is a fun fantasy book for nine years old and up. One of the creatures in this book is a ...

Grandson's Books
The continuing saga and just as good as the original Spiderwick series. We always sign up as soon as these series are available for our grandson, who loves them. Since we originally were stationed in Florida, we miss it and this book also captures the essence of the way Florida used to be. This is another excellent book for young people, so much better than other currently available series for ...

A book which comes in handy.
This book is an outstandibly good book. This book has lots of secrets that you wouldn't have found out in all of the five spiderwick books. This book had lots of tips about "how to recognise a faery".I think the best things about this book was it included maps that you need to find places, diagrams which you need to help you discover and so on.I rated this book five because it was very useable.I ...

Holly Black

Simon & Schuster Children's Publishing, 2007

My son & I LOVE the Spiderwick Chronicals Deluxe Trunk set
My seven year old son & I are both immensely enjoying the Spiderwick Chronicals. He asks every night if we can read another chapter. The books are much shorter in length than the Harry Potter Books, so better for the younger set, although, there are several words that are over his head. The trunk gives you or your child a great place to store all 5 books so they stay safely together. We ...

Beware the Boggart!: Jared Grace's Guide to Defense Against Fantastical Creatures (The Spiderwick Chronicles)
Irene Kilpatrick

Simon Spotlight, 2008

My name is Jared Grace. Not too long ago I moved with my sister, Mallory, and my twin brother, Simon, to Spiderwick Mansion. The mansion was a strange old house; its kitchen was stocked with tons of weird things like tomato sauce and honey. And I soon found out why. My great-great-uncle, Arthur Spiderwick, had uncovered a whole world of fantastical creatures: brownies, sprites, goblins, and even an ogre! And he had to protect himself against ...

The qulaity of the pictures is very good - better than some I have bought from Dover & other sources. The leading is not overdone, nor is the picutre too simplistic.

Fairies galore
This is a great start to a fun series. Kids will love to read this book and the others. They are only 100 pages each, with a picture on every other page, to it is great for a first chapter book. They are also wonderful to read aloud to kids. I read them as an adult and loved the entire series.

A cute and rather fun book!
Are you in love with sprites (or faeries if you would rather), and want to keep one with you as a beloved companion? Well, don't start until you have read this book! It covers everything from selecting your sprite, through care and feeding, and on to showing your sprite. (After all, what's the good of having a sprite if you can't show it off?) Oh yeah, this is a magical book, sure to please ...
