The Last Apprentice: Revenge of the Witch (Unabridged) 38 reviews Joseph Delaney
audible.com
Series is not for the faint of heart A well-written, albeit gruesome, horror series, for kids who think it's great fun to be scared witless. The fourth and latest book (as of August 2008) is the darkest so far. There are a few too many creatures that want to suck human blood for my taste, but that quibble aside, all entries in the series so far are page-turners.

Eek-a-Boo!: A Spooky Lift-the-Flap Book 4 reviews
Cartwheel, 2000
Adorable Halloween book Better than most Halloween books I've seen for preschool or kindergarten. Colors are bright and bold. The rhymes are well done. With the sounds the creatures make, it's also a good phonics lesson. And the flaps that you lift held up well under multiples readings. Most of all, it's just a cute book. I've given copies in place of candy to friends/family's kids at halloween this year.

Boo Who? A Spooky Book 7 reviews
Cartwheel, 1997
This is my 2 year old daughter's favorite Halloween book. My 2 year old, Charlotte, demanded this book repeatedly this past Halloween. It was the one she WANTED read over and over. She loved the ending, and I liked the fact that the mirror at the end was good quality, so she could actually see herself (not just a blur).

Ravenstone Press, 2005
Delightfully Scary Ghost Stories From The Plains Everyone has fond memories of ghost stories, perhaps told around a campfire, or at a Halloween party. Children love to shiver with fright, knowing full well they're safe and sound and the ghosts can't *really* get them. But they grow up and discard the ghost stories and spooky tales as childish things best forgotten.
Well, get ready to shiver again. TRESPASSING TIME: GHOST STORIES FROM THE ...

Spooky Thing 3 reviews W. O. Steele
Harcourt, 1960
A perfect read-aloud book especially for adolescent boys ! Late one afternoon while procrastinating my graduate school duties at the library, I remembered reading this book 35 years ago. I immediately searched it out and found the perfect distraction from studies. The Spooky Thing is a delightful old hillbilly tale from the Smoky Mountains. It tells the story of two cantankerous brothers that are constantly fighting each other(hmmm sound familiar?). ...

Spooky Michigan: Tales of Hauntings, Strange Happenings, and Other Local Lore (Spooky) 3 reviews S. E. Schlosser
Globe Pequot, 2007
A highly entertaining book All the stories in this book are very interesting. It is hard to pick a favorite. I really enjoyed the story entitled "Paul Bunyan and the Witch". This is a really good Paul Bunyan story that I had not heard before. This story by itself is worth the price of the book. The "Nain Rouge" in it's story line mention's a man named "Cadillac," according to the story seeing the Nain Rouge brings bad ...

Spooky New Jersey: Tales of Hauntings, Strange Happenings, and Other Local Lore (Spooky) 4 reviews S. E. Schlosser
Globe Pequot, 2006
Spooky New Jersey Spooky New Jersey captures your interest from the first story to the last. No New Jersey folklore book is complete without a New Jersey Devil story. The author of this book has adventures of the Jersey Devil in a 1909 setting. The Devil's activities are presented in an interesting and straight forward manner. Another story that captured my interest is named Brotherly Love. The setting is in ...

Thirteen O'Clock 4 reviews James Stimson, 2005
"A skeleton with a skeleton's key..." I love the illustrations in this book and its innovative concept: a quirky clock that actually chimes at thirteen, quite unlike the ordinary timekeeper, that only runs from one to twelve. Stimson's brilliant illustrations remind me of my favorite animated films, The Nightmare Before Christmas and James and the Giant Peach, with the eccentric faces of unusual characters that pop out at the chime ...

Bill Peet charms again! If you have yet to become acquainted with Bill Peet books, you're in for a treat! His vibrantly colorful illustrations are fantastic and his stories very engaging. I remember as a child how my imagination would run and frolick around in his wonderful stories and pictures. Prewitt Peacock's story is no exception. It's a tale of a... well... a tail. A BOOK TO BE TREASURED BY ADULTS AND CHILDREN. This is a wonderful anthology. Top-notch mystery writers and their children (and, in some cases, grandchildren) collaborated on a variety of entertaining stories.
