Great book for every teen
Like several reviewers wrote, I picked up this book for my 13 year old and first read it myself. It not only inspired me to do some "hard things", it helped me realize how I can challenge my kids to stretch beyond what they think their limitations may be . My daughter is reading it now and loves it and I want my husband to read it next. I will recommend it to everyone I know who has a teen or ...

It works!!!
I bought this book because I was exhausted and about 650 people had given it positive reviews. It actually does work!!! Within 12 days, my son was sleeping through the night, and I re-entered the world of functioning, thinking human beings!! Pantley has taken a very scientific approach to developing this method, and it shows. It seems to be geared more toward co-sleeping families, but she ...

Buy This! for kids! (and yourself)
In parenting as in life, it's all about making good decisions. The trick is knowing which choices are the right ones. This small colorful book tells you very simply which food choices are the right ones. It not only tells you, but also shows you with hundreds of color photos. Although it is supposedly for kids, the information is useful -- and fascinating -- for anyone. We've all heard the ...

Most useful sleep book
Every day that my child did not sleep through the night after reaching 12-13 pounds, I bought another book with sleep advice. This is the fifth and final book that I bought. Every friend I recommend it to is incredibly grateful and I am forever grateful to the friend who recommended it to me.

Great book for newborns
I bought this book with a bunch of other books, I'm due in two months so I haven't actually tried any of Dr. Karps techniques but the book was super easy to read, and had some really interesting techniques that I'm dying to try now! :-) I would definitely recommend this book to anyone, especially for first time parents.

Finally, some evidence-based advice.
As a happy but sometimes sleep-deprived breastfeeding mother of a typical 7 month old, I have read a wide variety of books on parenting and sleep. Books that promote strict feeding/sleeping routines, such as BabyWise & Baby Whisperer, provide potentially damaging advice to the mother hoping to successfully breastfeed. The assertion that you must follow some kind of eat-activity-sleep schedule ...

a model for a holistic approach
James Gordon, MD, opens his new book with the following bold statement: "Depression is not a disease, the end point of a pathological process...It's a wake-up call and the start of a journey that can help us become whole and happy, a journey that can change and transform our lives." This may not sound like the typical perspective of a Western-trained psychiatrist, but Gordon is not your typical ...

The Only Baby Care Book You Need
This book was recommended by our pediatrician and also by our hospital. It truly is the only baby care book you need. Great format, clean, simple reading that is easy to digest...especially important in those first few weeks as a new parent. It will be the only childcare book still sitting on my bookshelf when we're ready for baby #2.

Just what I was looking for
This excellent book filled a palpable void in my parenting books by (finally!) answering so many of my questions about my baby's development. Dozens of other books on my shelf told me what to avoid during pregnancy, for example, but none explained why. The author brought the best research along with her own (and others') personal experiences to create a fabulous book about babies' cognitive ...

Very satisfied
I have been expecting to have a baby within two months. I bought this book to learn how to take care of newborn before giving birth. I read some reviews before getting it. A few people didn't seem to satisfy with it. But for me, it is so great. It has got detail of each chapter and easy to read and understand. I am going to have a first baby but this book has given me so much information. If you ...

Authoritative, compact, no-nonsense
I really appreciate this "baby owner's manual." Published by a large professional group effort of the American Academy of Pediatrics, it is down to earth, up-to-date, and clearly written. They cover everything-- physical, social, intellectual, and emotional development, safety issues including products and food safety, and of course, health information. I just call it 'the book.' Highly ...

Exactly what I needed!
This book has been invaluable to me as my son has started eating solids and becoming more active. I am a first-time parent, and while I do not hold to a strict daily schedule or the sleeping methods that Baby-Wise suggests, I find their wisdom and suggestions regarding introducing solids and varying the "wake time" activities extremely helpful. I had few ideas as to what to do with my baby on a ...

Great Book on Infant Nutrition
Okay, it's important to bear in mind that Annabel Karmel is British - she lives and works in Britain, where child feeding guidelines are obviously different. This information is clearly stated in the book. I don't think she has disdain for AAP (American Academy of Pediatric) guidelines ... not everything revolves around America, folks! So keep that in mind as you consider which recipes to make ...
