Monica Kulling

History for kids!
Keeping interesting reading for a beginning reader is always a challenge. Henry Ford's First Race was a winner, especially with our six year old son. The cover is now curled from repeated reading.

Wheels! (Step-Into-Reading, Step 1)3 reviews
Annie Cobb

Random House Books for Young Readers, 1996

Great early reader for car-obsessed boys!
My almost 5 year old son is learning to read rapidly, but there are so few books which he enjoys AND can read well. He was highly motivated to read Wheels, as he adores vehicles of all kinds. The format is very simple (1-2 short sentences per page)and includes plenty of long and short vowel words, as well as "oo" sounds and "igh" sounds. Hardly any words with 2 syllables.

Margaret Wise Brown

Great first reader
This book is a great first book. In fact, it is the first book my son read. *sniff* I'm so proud. :-) The sentences are short and the pictures hint at what the words may be. I would recommend this to all parents who are helping their children learn to read.

Best book ever
I think Harry Houdini is one of the best books I have ever read. I think it is good because it's about a true story and they write it in a very good way.

Charles Ghigna

One Of His Favorites
I bought this book for my 5 year old and he absolutely loves it. It's one of the few he has actually read over and over again. Some of the early reader books tend to bore him, but he (and I!) find this one very entertaining.

RH Disney, Jennifer Liberts

A perfect book for beginning readers
My 5-year old daughter is just learning how to read, and this was the first book I bought her that she could read all the way through on her own. Step Into Reading Step One books have large print, repetition, and only a few words on every page--perfect for a child just in the beginning stages of reading. My daughter was so proud of herself after she read through this story (which, by the way, is ...

The Snowball (Step-Into-Reading, Step 1)3 reviews
Jennifer Armstrong

Excellent Book
This book is great. The words rhyme as you read along which makes it fun to read for young children. The pictures are bright and colorful and go along with the words on each page. The pictures make youngsters laugh. My 3-year old son memorized this book in 2 readings and now thinks he can read. Now he asks for new books to read all the time. Hungry Plants (Step into Reading)7 reviews

Interesting details on plants
I bought this book along with Plants Bite Back. We had already read our library copy of the Plants Bite Back and I actually was not sure I needed another book on carniverous plants. To my surprise, this little book offers other very important and interesting details on plants that are not in the other book (which is an excellent book also). I am glad we got this book (e.g.it explained why we ...

Trail of Tears (Step-Into-Reading, Step 5)4 reviews
Joseph Bruchac

Random House Books for Young Readers, 1999

A Must for Every Classroom
This is a truly outstanding, well written book. My daughter at the age of 7 read this with ease. She was able to discuss Seuoyah, John Ross, Andrew Jackson, and Thomas Jefferson with me. She had an accurate understanding of the Traii of Tears, the Indian Removal Bill, and even was able to discuss how the Cherokee Alphabet came about. The best part was she and I both enjoyed the book. This book ...

The Berenstain Bears Catch the Bus: A Tell the Time Story (Step into Reading, Step 2)3 reviews
The Berenstains

Random House Books for Young Readers, 1999

No more "I want to sleep".
This is a really useful book to get my four-year old out of bed every morning. A nice feature is that every page shows a dial and a digital clock, making it easy for the child to learn to tell time. The book also teaches my son that he might be late for school if he does not wake up on time. So now every morning I will read the book to him, and he will wake up smiling instead of whining "I ...
