Amy Butler's Little Stitches9 reviews
Amy Butler

Chronicle Books, 2008

Best Amy Butler Book, by far
This book is everything you hope...and more! Amy Butler is known for her beautiful fabric and fresh ideas but I have a stack of her books on my shelf that I have loved to look at, but have never been inspired to make something from immediately. This book is the complete opposite! Each project is one that you will really want to make and is full of patterns, not just ideas. The projects themselves ...

Great Garter Stitch4 reviews
Jean Leinhauser, Rita Weiss

Sterling, 2008

More than just garter stitch indeed
Okay, the projects in this book are stunning and doable. If you think this is knit every row, plain old garter stitch, you are wrong. There is no purling, but the knit stitch is used to create interesting effects and texture. The only problem is picking out the first project to make.

Debbie Stoller

Workman Publishing Company, 2006

A Great Place TO Start And Refer Back To
This book taught me all of the basic stitches I use (whether ready or not) during my introduction to crochet. I refer back to it for a quick refresher or an idea for a pattern change. Well worth every cent.

Son of Stitch 'n Bitch: 45 Projects to Knit and Crochet for Men22 reviews
Debbie Stoller

Workman Publishing Company, 2007

Some Great Projects, Some Crappy Projects
I absolutely love most of the patterns in this book. The other ones are just too funky or ugly for me to consider making. It's well over half of the patterns that are great though. It's not easy to find some good patterns for the modern man and this book is good for that. Maybe some of the ugly ones would look better with a different color palette. My favorite projects are the Uncle ...

This one is for someone a little past beginner...
For whatever reason, when I bought this book online it was only three bucks. So I thought there was no way I could pass it up. I'm glad I bought it because it taught me how to tweak a pattern in order to use any type of yarn I want. I know I should have been able to figure out how to do this anyway, but I couldn't. Thanks Debbie, now I can use yarn I can afford to knit cool looking things.

Alabama Stitch Book: Projects and Stories Celebrating Hand-Sewing, Quilting and Embroidery for Co Sustainable ...13 reviews
Natalie Chanin, Stacie Stukin

STC Craft/A Melanie Falick Book, 2008

I just can't stop stitching now!
I bought this book on a whim a few months back, admired the photos, and then stuck it on the shelf and sort of forgot I had it. I took it out again a couple of weeks ago and decided to try one of the simpler projects - a reverse appliqued book cover. I'm hooked! The instructions were clear, the results were beautiful, and the book itself is inspiring. Since that book cover, I've made myself 2 ...

Subversive Cross Stitch70 reviews
Julie Jackson

Chronicle Books, 2006

Finally!
All the women in my family are very creative and artsy, every single one of them, except me, I tried every craft that looked remotely interesting and not a one panned out for me. And then I found this book, and I fell in love. My grandmother had done cross stitching for as long as I can remember, but died before she had a chance to teach me. So now I finally have my craft, its perfect for a ...

Amy Butler's In Stitches: More Than 25 Simple and Stylish Sewing Projects44 reviews
Amy Butler

Chronicle Books, 2006

Projects are hip and modern
If you like hip, modern projects with stylish fabric potential, then you will enjoy Amy Butler's book. These projects are fun and are easy to sew. So far, I've made the bag with leather straps, though I did have a difficult time locating a retailer who sells leather straps, I had to go online to purchase the straps; nevertheless, the instructions were easy to follow. Her instructions are very ...

Stitch Graffiti: Unexpected Cross-Stitch (Unexpected Cross Stitch)3 reviews
Heather Holland-Daly

Interweave Press, 2008

Accessible and imaginative!
I've been waiting for Stitch Graffiti for a while, and I certainly wasn't disappointed! I love Heather Holland-Daly's designs, and if you haven't seen them before, check out her website: www.monsterbubbles.com (and no I'm not getting royalties for talking her up). She uses brilliant colors and eclectic designs, often quoting poetry or music in her peices. Her patterns are funky, youthful, and ...

The Knitting Experience: Book 1: The Knit Stitch (The Knitting Experience)84 reviews
Sally Melville

XRX Books, 2002

A great Knitting Experience
I got this book for one pattern, the knitted coat, however I was pleased to find so many patterns that I know I can use. The patterns are not so difficult you would not start them, however they do keep your interest...I started the coat the day I received the book...strongly recommend.

A Killer Stitch (Knitting Mysteries, No. 4)9 reviews
Maggie Sefton

Berkley, 2008

MORE OF A GOOD THING
I've read all of the books in this series, and like the others, was sorry to get to the end of it. Kelly and the gang seem like a growing family, we get new characters with each one, and I find that it's like a comfy blanket, the more I'm with it, the better it gets. I CAN'T WAIT FOR THE NEXT ONE !!! My only advice for the author is WRITE FASTER!!!

Simple Gifts to Stitch: 30 Elegant and Easy Projects11 reviews
Jocelyn Worrall

Potter Craft, 2007

Great Book
I ordered this book almost as an afterthought - thinking that I had pretty much seen every idea for making stylish gifts. Boy, was I wrong! This is a great book that even beginner sewers could use. Great ideas including making your own decorative wrapping paper. If you don't sew or craft - this is a perfect book to give as a gift.

The Crochet Stitch Bible38 reviews
Betty Barnden

Krause Publications, 2004

Very useful for a beginner
Got this 4 months after I 1st learned to crochet. I love it--beautifully colored photos, very readable diagrams, plus the spiral binding & compact size make it a great "bring along" book I can just throw into a small bag with my yarn and hook. First I thought it might be too tedious to learn how to read the symbol diagrams for the patterns. THEN I discovered each right-hand page also has tiny ...
