The True Story of the Three Little Pigs142 reviews
Jon Scieszka

Puffin, 1996

Two snouts up!
The True Story of the Three Little Pigs by A. Wolf (Picture Puffin) I use this book for the sixth graders I teach in writing a "response to literature." They look at several aspects of a story and learn to critically respond to it. Since everyone knows the Three Little Pigs, this fun version captures their interest.

The Story of a Marriage: A Novel18 reviews
Andrew Sean Greer

Farrar, Straus and Giroux, 2008

good balance
The STORY OF A MARRIAGE was a well balanced, well-written book. The plot was realistic, the characters were "flushed out" and the San Francisco - 1950's setting was memorable . Having current events of the day and references to pop culture , a lollypop on a curved soft handle, were superb details . Yes, plot, characters and settings merged beautifully to the well balanced book.

The Story of the World: Activity Book 1: Ancient Times: From the Earliest Nomads to the Last Roman Emperor, ...54 reviews
Susan Wise Bauer

Peace Hill Press, 2006

Great Resource!!
This book series is the perfect balance between a scripted, rigid history program and a completely unstructured approach to teaching history. I use it in a homeschooling history coop group with 6 girls, age 5-8. We have a great time. I use the study questions, we fill out the map, and then we do a craft. We enjoyed forming the Nile river with dirt and rocks, building an "ancient home" ...

A classic not to be missed!
This is even better--more compact and convenient without taking away from the quality--thsn the Criterion Laser Disc I have, with all the interesting bonuses included (storyboards, screen tests, etc.) This is a classic movie in itself...but for the avid fan, this edition is a MUST HAVE for any West Side Story fanatic!

The Story of Edgar Sawtelle: A Novel2 reviews
David Wroblewski

Ecco, 2008

*Here* is a writer...
...and *here* is a novel. Chock-full of a love of language, a robust narrative style, but moreover, more importantly, here is an actual *story*, something rare on today's literary fiction landscape. 'Edgar Sawtelle' will appeal to those who love a good story, to those who love intriguing characters, and certainly to those who love dogs. Mr. Wroblewski's accomplishments with this, his ...

The Neverending Story (Firebird)259 reviews
Michael Ende

Puffin, 1993

Imagining the Imagination
This is perhaps the greatest - certainly one of the most well-known - works of German juvenile literature in the last century. And it is so much more than simply a fantasy adventure, although it certainly doesn't lack in entertainment value. The book is actually imaginative literature that makes the imagination itself its main subject. It is about the proper handling of one's imagination and ...

The Best American Short Stories 2007 (The Best American Series)19 reviews

Houghton Mifflin, 2007

Worth it for the King essay alone...
I'm a HUGE Stephen King fan. Always have been, always will be. I am also a fan of The Best American series. So, when I discovered that King was the editor of this year's Best American Short Stories, I was duly excited. (Of course, I had to remind myself that he didn't actually write these stories.) Therefore, I was disheartened when a friend whose opinion I value had no interest in this ...

The Story of the World: History for the Classical Child: Volume 1: Ancient Times: From the Earliest Nomads to ...103 reviews
Susan Wise Bauer

Peace Hill Press, 2006

Very good resource
Only one caution, there are some map inaccuracies in the workbook. Ninevah is on the wrong side of the Tigris river on two of the worksheets. Very nice foundation for young children; mine look forward to reading every day.

Robert Mckee

HarperEntertainment, 1997

Let me tell you a Story
Fantastic content and narrative! McGee's book is awesome however the Audio CD really brings it all to life. Candidly, I'm surprised Robert is also so talented narrating the audio - this is a must-have purchase, even if you've already bought is book "Story".

The Story of the World: History for the Classical Child, Volume 3: Early Modern Times11 reviews
Susan Wise Bauer

Peace Hill Press, 2004

Wonderful Product
The history is in a story format that kids can relate to and understand. I homeschool 3 children and absolutely love this curriculum. The story pages to color help my youngest follow along as the older ones read. We have the activity book and there are supplementary books that we get from the library. The quizes also help alot!

Haroun and the Sea of Stories111 reviews
Salman Rushdie

Viking Children's Books, 1999

Nice Story, Well written
I have been reading Sulman Rushdie for a while and I can see what makes him so great. His interest in giving out details makes this book and any of his other book an interesting reading.

Our Story Begins: New and Selected Stories7 reviews
Tobias Wolff

Knopf, 2008

A Jarring Note
I read quite a bit, but never cared much for the short story genre. Most collections are quite uneven and typically vary in quality from one tale to the next. Wolff's stories, however are uniformly good. He has a way of beginning each tale with a grabber introduction, and I was rarely disappointed. In sum, I thought all but 2 of his 31 stories were evocative, interesting, and engrossing. I ...

Story of O184 reviews
Pauline Reage

Ballantine Books, 1992

Perversions
This was a very interesting novel of a woman's sex awakening into BDSM. She goes in voluntarily and she tells the in a matter of fact and up front way. Don't know if I will ever understand the Pain as pleasure angle but she makes it palitable.

The Story of the World: History for the Classical Child, Volume 4: The Modern Age: From Victoria's Empire to ...11 reviews
S. Wise Bauer

Peace Hill Press, 2005

My son loves this series
My son started with Book 1 of this series on audio and eagerly listened to the CDs over and over. He honestly knows way more about history and geography than anyone I know (including adults). His greatest loves are maps, geography, history, and military battles and equipment due to The Story of the World. This series has prompted a 9 year old boy to read scholarly tomes from the library and ...

Sara Zarr

Little, Brown Young Readers, 2008

I'm rubber, you're glue -- what happens when reputations stick!
In high school, perhaps more than anywhere else, a bad reputation can stick with you forever. This tender, touching and very realistic novel about teen sex and its aftermath will -- like it's main character's bad reputation -- stick for you for a long time after you read it!

NOT BORING AT ALL! WE LOVE IT!!
I don't know why the same reviewer listed 2 reviews saying this was a boring series, but they couldn't be more wrong. This is the perfect way to explore history, from beginning to end. The narration is fun and interesting. My 8-year-old and 5-year-old love to listen to the stories and enjoy the workbook as well. Even my 2-year-old will listen to it. It is perfect for the car or when you are ...

User Stories Applied: For Agile Software Development (The Addison-Wesley Signature Series)37 reviews
Mike Cohn

Addison-Wesley Professional, 2004

"The" book on User Stories - Excellent, well written, right length
I work for a consulting company that trains in both agile methods as well as more antiquated lean UP. I was looking for "the" book on user stories. If I wanted to recommend "the" book for use cases, it was "Writing Effective Use Cases" by Alistair Cockburn. I received this book on Tuesday and had finished reading it by Thursday. It is very well laid out, the chapters are the right length, it ...
