Yet another Superfortress from Squadron/Signal
This being my third Superfortress title from Squadron/Signal, I was suprised to find that Larry Davis managed to find things that Steve Birdsall seems to have left out. It seems that, rather than reprinting the old classics, Squadron/Signal has adopted the policy that if people keep asking for a book about a certain plane they get that book, written with the latest material, because there is ...

First of the Superfortress of Squadron/Signal
They must love this classic bomber at Squadron/Signal, because today i bought my third title from them about this plane. The one here is the original -my example doesn't even have an ISBN number, being published in 1977- As with all books in this series you get a lot of photographic marterial, splendid artwork (by Don Greer in this case) and some text about the plane. And that all has to fit in ...

Outstanding Resource for WWII enthusiasts
Mr. Mann has, with this superlative, book given me the tool I need I match my extensive B-29 photo collection to the "noseart" and serial numbers. This allows me to identify which B-29 belongs in it's assigned squadron and it's genisis. Invaluable when deciphering cryptic crew and mission reports as to which each Superfortress' role was in WWII, Korea and it's extended service as weather ship and ...

This is book that every famous plane deserves.Every aspect of the plane is covered. That is an understatement! It is all here.Great photos of the plane from Pima Air Museum(another must see). This is definitely a technical book that delves deep into the design, opearation, and logistics of a plane that has remained elusive though known by almost everybody because of its place in history. This book will ...

Superfortress: The Boeing B-29 and American Airpower in World War II
I am a Korean War veteran and an aviation enthusiast. From a history standpoint, I found this book to be one of the most interesting I have ever read leading up to the end of the war with Japan. I worked with B-36's in SAC under General LeMay and witnessed some of the things that he did when he was commander of this force. I briefly worked on B-29's during this time and often wondered how this ...
B-29 Superfortress Units of the Korean War (Combat Aircraft)
Robert Dorr
Osprey Publishing
, 2003
This book is the story of a majestic bomber of the propeller era flying perilous combat missions against a sleek, nimble warplane of the jet age, the Soviet MiG-15. A very heavy bomber and a sky giant during World War 2, at that time the B-29 was the most advanced combat aircraft in the world. By the time North Korea attacked its southern neighbour in 1950, the B-29 had been reclassified a medium bomber. Many of its crew members had fought their ...

Good reference, but expected a bit more.....
I purchased this title thinking it would be a much more technical analysis of the B-29. While a decent reference with many good photos of early production machines, I found it lacking when specific details were needed. Still, for the price, a good reference to have.

When the storm clouds of World War II blew over Europe and the Pacific, the men and women of the U.S. Army and Air Force came to the rescue. Flying past enemy lines to deliver crushing strikes to key targets were American bombers, the most legendary being the B-17 Flying Fortress, the B-24 Liberator, and the B-29 Superfortress. Big Bomber WWII tells the detailed design, development, and combat history of these bombers. Recalling these stories ...

An Amazing Synthesis
The Model Maker is an incredible synthesis of art and history. Weber's lucid writing is brought to life by Slifer's innovative and lifelike watercolor illustrations which establish a powerful mood on the first page that continues through the entire book.. The book gives a straight forward history of the Battle of the Bulge that is easily within the grasp of school age children. The story ...

Squadron/Signals Superfortress series best
Of the three books about the superfortress by Squadron/Signal that I own this is the best, and the three together are a formidable bulk of photographs and very fine artwork. This one stands out because it also offers colour photographs and more text than the two 'in action' brothers (1031 and 1165) can carry. Still it is photographs and drawings that are the main strenght of this book, but if you ...

Excellent Account of B-29 Crews' Contribution to Victory
Gen. LeMay gives a well-written, accurate history of how it was in the WWII Mariana Islands for the young crews and newly designed Superfortress. The first part of the book is a bit slow, but the description of the missions and battle strategies over Japan in the latter days of the war are enthralling. My dad, a B-29 bombardier and navigator based on Tinian, confirmed Gen. LeMay's account of ...
