The best quick reference for prescribing info
I've used the pocket pharmacopoeia for many years, and it's the only book I'll buy every year when the new edition comes out. It's amazing how they can stuff so much info into a pocket-sized book. Sure, ePocrates and other handheld databases have more info, but I can usually look up a medicine in the pharmacopoeia faster than it takes to open up a Palm and type in the med name. Doc's Little Helper
If you can read small print, this is the book to have to carry anywhere with you. It gives LOTS of helpful info that other books don't without being big, bulky, wordy, or heavy. It litterally fits in the palm of your hand or a shirt pocket. There is a "large version" that fits in a lab coat or pant's pocket, but I like the little ones best. Very nice quick reference, I used it daily on my peds clerkship.

Duh. . . Tarascon is the Gold Standard for drug reference
I've been a practicing internist for more than 10 years. Although much of my practice and reference materials are on computer, nothing can take the place of my Tarascon Pharmacopoeia. It is an absolute must for not only medical students and residents, but all those in primary care. I call it my "drug brain" and I feel lost without it.

This single card summarizes the myriad CYP-450 drug-drug interactions, but is so frought with exceptions and redundancies that it is not clinically useful. Also, Amazon charged me $3.95 for shipping which should have been ecologically minded and sent with a 42 cent envelope!
