Telecommunications Essentials, Second Edition: The Complete Global Source (2nd Edition) 17 reviews Lillian Goleniewski, Kitty Wilson Jarrett
Addison-Wesley Professional, 2006
The Best and Most Readable Book on Telecom I have to hand it to the authors, Lillian Goleniewski and Kitty Jarrett, for producing hands-down the most readable and comprehensive book out there on Telecom. I have had to slog through some of the worst writing to study this subject, and it was a breath of fresh air to crack this one open and start reading.
The authors cover every aspect of the field in great depth, and in such clear ...

Business Data Networks and Telecommunications (6th Edition) 8 reviews Raymond R. Panko
Prentice Hall, 2006
Six Stars! I've recently completed a course using this textbook. Excellent!!! It has been a long time (if ever) since I have actually enjoyed reading a textbook. I feel it should be mandatory reading for all authors and potential authors who will ever feel the need to publish a textbook for undergraduate level work in a technical field. Most of the many corrections on the online corrections page are ...

Telecommunications: A Beginner's Guide 3 reviews Hill Associates Inc
McGraw-Hill Osborne Media, 2001
best intro to voice and data communications If you only can read one book on the subject, this is it.
Written by experts in the field of computer networking and telco engineers it gives clear explanation of POTS infrastructure and data networking fundamentals, including the internet architecture. A lot of pages are devoted to "dying" technologies, such as X.25, ATM, and frame relay. Hot topics such as TCP/IP and Ethernet don't get enough ...

Competition in Telecommunications (Munich Lectures) 2 reviews Jean-Jacques Laffont, Jean Tirole
The MIT Press, 2001
Review of Competition in Telecommunications Probably the best summary of the economics of access regulation in the easly chapters that you'll find anywhere (particularly after the sad passing of Jean-Jacques) and a very accessible coverage of the application of those principles to the specific case of telecommunications.

Telecommunications Wiring (3rd Edition) 3 reviews Clyde N. Herrick
Prentice Hall PTR, 2000
Great......if you only want to get info on running cabling I was looking for detailed information on end-point wiring (66/110 blocks, RJ 45, etc.) and this book was on the top of all the book sellers lists.........but it wasn't what I was hoping for.
Don't get me wrong, it's an excellent reference for the engineering behing cabling signals, planning and installing cabling. But the information on what to do with the ends of the cables isn't what I was ...

Telecommunications Billing Systems 2 reviews Jane M. Hunter, Maud Thiebaud
McGraw-Hill Professional, 2002
Best book available about billing There are not many books in Amazon about telco billing, just 3 titles.
From those 3: 2 should never see the daylight. The third one explains solid basics, processes taking place in billing systems etc. This is the book. In my opinion for begginers and intermediate people in billing.
Anyway the best choice here.

Telecommunications Breakdown: Concepts of Communication Transmitted via Software-Defined Radio 1 review C. Richard Johnson, William A. Sethares
Prentice Hall, 2003
Great Introduction to Modem Design This book is a great introduction to digital modem design. I put together my first crude QPSK modem just before getting this book. I read a bunch of different articles and papers in order to design my modem pieces and put them together. Most of that reading was a waste of time. I wish that I had this book back then because it covers everything you need to design a basic modem ...such as AGC, ...

McGraw-Hill's Encyclopedia of Networking & Telecommunications 26 reviews Tom Sheldon

It's a keeper. I work for an ISP in the Upstate NY area in 2nd level Internet support. I have found this book to be a very handy and comprehensive reference on Networking technologies. We are also an ILEC and I am impressed with how well this reference covers terms or acronyms that I am unfamiliar with when dealing with this side of the business. Great job Tom! Keep up the good work.

Telecommunication System Engineering (Wiley Series in Telecommunications and Signal Processing) 4 reviews Roger L. Freeman
Wiley-IEEE Press, 2004
Remarkable Depth - Great One-stop Solution Working in the telecommunications industry, I have become all too familiar with texts that skimp on topics important to the reader and are skewed toward the authors' interests. Freeman does an excellent job of balancing his coverage and providing a book with meaningful depth. I was looking to the book simply for its ATM and SS7 chapters, but the other chapters were very good also and I ended ...

Makes MCSE, ECNE or Sun certification a joke. This is the real engineering book to consider and understand Networks. You may need to find a key for all the solutions as they are very hard to understand. A upper level of statistics is taken for granted before you address this book.
