Thomson West, 2006
Awesome! I'm a LL.M. student, and this dictionary really does a great favor in my learning of the U.S. Law. I was used to using the original version of Black's Law Dictionary during my prior job. Therefore, I bougut this pocket dictionary for my present study.

Stages of Senior Care: Your Step-by-Step Guide to Making the Best Decisions 11 reviews Paul Hogan, Lori Hogan

This book really helped I gave this book to a friend whose parents were getting older. They had health issues and needed help around the house and could not drive anymore. He was considering placing them in a nursing home but did not want to uproot them from their cherished memories and surroundings. He reported to me that the book helped him talk to his parents. They all became more aware of the range of options ...

Vagabonding: An Uncommon Guide to the Art of Long-Term World Travel 72 reviews Rolf Potts
Villard Books, 2002
5 Stars for Inspiration, 5 for Information There are two main things I liked about this book:
A) It is THE book if you want the urge to "just take the first plane ticket anywhere, and go on an adventure." This book is amazing motivation if you are considering doing a long-term travel trip.
B) It gives concise resources. Nothing more to say, information is all there.
C) The quotes. Nothing like poetic (and wise) statements ...

When Genius Failed: The Rise and Fall of Long-Term Capital Management 233 reviews Roger Lowenstein
Random House Trade Paperbacks, 2001
The Triumph of Timeless Truths Somebody suggested that for every 3 books you read, make sure that one of them is at least eight years old (from its initial publication date). This particular book demonstrates the legitimacy of the suggestion.
This is required reading for anyone involved in the fields of finance/ economics/mathematics or the social sciences. The moral of this story is really captured from a quote attributed ...

On Talking Terms With Dogs: Calming Signals 108 reviews Turid Rugaas
Dogwise Publishing, 2005
I'm so excited! This is a lovely book. I am on vacation and just read it. I can't wait to get home and try this out on my dog. This book is basically a foreign language book. When you're done reading it, you will at least now be able to "speak" through your body language to calm your dog. What a gift this is. I am practicing it a bit on my relative's dog (who doesn't many issues) and it works!

The China Study: The Most Comprehensive Study of Nutrition Ever Conducted and the Startling Implications for ... 685 reviews T. Colin Campbell, Thomas M. Campbell II
Benbella Books, 2006
Life Changing Information The China Study is a book everyone in the United States needs to read. Your life may depend on it.
It's mind boggling that this information has been deliberately withheld from us when our very lives were at risk. The information in this book would have saved the life of my father and best friend had it been made available to them prior to their deaths.
Anger at big business and our ...

The Investor's Manifesto: Preparing for Prosperity, Armageddon, and Everything in Between 28 reviews William J. Bernstein
Wiley, 2009
Practical Advice The author does an excellent job of explaining the importance of financial planning in today's US society along with the underlying risks and rewards and the importance of an individual's ability to be comfortable with a certain level of risk. It concludes with some very specific guidelines for asset distribution. Of course the minute I followed the advice to be more aggressive the market dropped ...

Scholastic Dictionary Of Idioms (Revised) 14 reviews Marvin Terban
Scholastic Reference, 2006
My son has Asperger's Syndrome... ...and has trouble with language and reading comprehension. We read one or two of these at the dinner table and it always leads to more discussions and life lessons. It's great for our younger son too. It's well written and interesting. My husband and I have learned things too...like the origins of a lot of those funny sayings and how they came to be part of our language today.

The Language of Yoga: Complete A to Y Guide to Asana Names, Sanskrit Terms, and Chants (Sanskrit and English ... 33 reviews Nicolai Bachman
Sounds True, Incorporated, 2005
great resource for learning sanskrit names of asanas This is truly a great resource for yoga practitioners to learn correct (sanskrit) names for asanas. I am very impressed with how the book is laid out and how detailed it is. Learning the individual Sanskrit words for animals, body parts and direction allows the yogi to understand the asana organically.

Critical data for the LONG run This book has been derided by some using short-term market data, but the first chapter contains LONG-TERM data covering 200 years that are easily worth more than the purchase price of the book. One table includes inflation-adjusted returns of most major asset classes spanning the entire time period to give a comprehensive overview of performance without the clouding of recent data that is so ...

Living Low Carb: Controlled-Carbohydrate Eating for Long-Term Weight Loss 6 reviews Jonny Bowden PhD CNS
Sterling, 2010
The next time someone tells you low carb is "dangerous"... The hoopla over low-carb diets has all but vanished in the news. Once the low-carb junk foods disappeared, the media quickly dismissed low carb as "dead." (And oh yeah, if you keep eating this way, they said, you would be dead too.)
It's not. And we're not. Plenty of us happily eat low carb, and enjoy optimal health. We look and feel great. We have not died of kidney failure, or whatever ...

Speaking Better French: The Key Words and Expressions that You'll Need Every Day 7 reviews Saul H. Rosenthal
Wheatmark, 2007
What a wonderful book As an American French language student, I normally avoid American sources for learning French. This is partly because I find the American approach to learning foreign languages typically overly utilitarian, a tool in the management of an empire. And, other Americans usually just reinforce my own mistakes (as I'm sure I do theirs). So Saul Rosenthal's Speaking Better French comes as a bit of a ...

Enjoyable Light Reading This is a very enjoyable book to read. For every word or phrase that the book describes the author provides a short but enjoyable story on where the word came from. I have been reading this a few pages at a time and like that I can read it when I have some spare time. A friend of mine has already asked to borrow it when I am finished.
