Murder on the Trans-Siberian Express: A Porfiry Petrovich Rostnikov Novel10 reviews
Stuart M. Kaminsky

Mysterious Press, 2001

Policework in a city without laws
I'm new to Kaminsky, so all the Russian named characters living in a different world made the early going slow. By Book II, however, I was up to speed and turned onto the pace of three overlapping plots: 1. Porfiry Rostnikov, the seasoned Moscow cop with a plastic leg, along with Sasha Tkach is on a mission on the title train in a compartment with a couple of Americans, an intriguing female ...

Simon Richmond, Mara Vorhees

Lonely Planet Publications, 2002

Excellent guide book
This LP was all i needed for the russian leg of my trans-siberian trip, It offers more than enough to keep you busy for the standard one month tourist visa. (The people above must have never gotten off the train between Moscow and Irkutsk!) If you intend to branch out in mongolia or china then you will obiously need to supplement this guide. It is a short compact guide focused specificly on the ...

Trans-Siberian Railway (Lonely Planet Travel Guides)6 reviews
Simon Richmond

Lonely Planet, 2006

very useful guide
As the title says, I found the book a very useful guide. Since I currently live in China, I was mostly just using the portions for Mongolia, and Russia. My only complaint is the switching around of currency used. Sometime in the Russian portion prices would be listed in US dollars, other times Rubles, and sometimes in Euros. It would have been much better to pick one currency and stick with ...

Trans-Siberian Handbook: Seventh Edition of the Guide to the World's Longest Railway Journey (Trailblazer ...14 reviews
Bryn Thomas

Trailblazer Publications, 2007

Preferable to the Lonely Planet guide. Indeed, one of the best travel guides I've ever encountered
For passengers on traveling on all or most of the Trans-Siberian Railway and visiting the cities along it, there are only two English-language travel guides. The Lonely Planet guide appeared in 2003 with a second edition in 2006, while Bryn Thomas updates his guide almost yearly and in 2007 it reached its seventh edition. I'm a two-time veteran of the Trans-Siberian, using the 1st edition of the ...

By Train to Shanghai: A Journey on the Trans-Siberian Railway
William, J. Gingles

The Trans-Siberian Railway1 review
Cornelia Veenendaal

Alice James Books, 1973

Not what you think
You cant judge a book by it's cover. This book is a book of poetry, and had nothing to do with the Trans Siberian Railway.

Robert M. Goldstein

Rivendell Publishing Northwest, 2005

A memorable snapshot of one man's encounter with a nation
Set in 1987, The Gentleman from Finland: Adventures on the Trans-Siberian Express is a memoir chronicling mishaps that escalate almost into the realm of the bizarre. The author, a short, swarthy Mexican-American-Russian-Jew, boards what he believes to be the Trans-Siberian Express yet discovers two days later that he is on the wrong train, traversing the Soviet Union with a voucher that ...

Trans-Siberian Express1 review
Warren Adler

Stonehouse Press, 2001

An Intriguing Journey
"Trans-Siberian Express" is an early Warren Adler novel, but it is a fine novel. It tells the story of an American doctor, Dr. Alex Cousins, and his internal conflict, while on a train with a memorable cast of characters. On the train is a beautiful KGB agent that Dr. Cousins will fall for; a former Gulag inmate looking for revenge; an ambitious KGB agent who will resort to murder to get what ...
