The Upper Room 62 reviews Mary Monroe
Kensington, 2004
Great Book! Mary Monroe's best! I read Upper Room some time ago, but the details of the book are very fresh in my mind. It's not a book that you would forget. This began my admiration for Mary Monroe's writing style. It's a great book and I would definitely recommend it to anyone. Whether you're a reader or not, you will definitely enjoy this one.

The Upper Room Disciplines 2008: A Book of Daily Devotions (Upper Room Disciplines: A Book of Daily Devotions) 1 review
Upper Room Books, 2007
Disciplined Devotions Over the past 3 years I have found the Disciplines devotions consistently thoughtful and spiritual. Usually they touch the common texts for the upcoming week and prepare one well for worship the next Sunday. The prayers and suggestions for thought are often helpful. Entries seem to be written by people from many Protestant traditions and all walks of life.

Tongues: Beyond the Upper Room 5 reviews Kenneth E. Hagin
Faith Library Publications, 2007
I learned a lot about TONGUES from Bro. Hagin I *thought* I knew about "tongues" (e.g., "languages") from all my Bible study (having read the whole Bible -and from reading many other books -see my other book reviews), but I found I was wrong or unclear on several points. Bro. Kenneth W. Hagin (the son) was kind enough to compile the notes of his father (the late Rev. Kenneth E. Hagin), helping me on these points. For example:
* I thought ...

Hungering for God : Selected Writings of Augustine (Upper Room Spiritual Classics. Series I) 1 review Saint, Bishop of Hippo Augustine
Upper Room Books, 1997
Soulful Introduction to a Longing Soul Many thanks to the publisher for providing this very accessible introduction to the spiritual writings of Augustine of Hippo. The fourteen selections carry just enough of the flavor of this thinker to whet the reading desire of those who have shied away from Augustine and yet, the selections are fresh so that those familiar with Augustine's work (the Confessions, City of God) will also find ...

The Upper Room Dictionary of Christian Spiritual Formation 1 review
Upper Room Books, 2003
Good Info for Beginners If you are beginning a journey in spiritual formation and find that some of the terminology found in the "classics" a little confusing, this is an excellent source to aid you in defining certain terms used in the study and practice of Christian spiritual formation. If you are well versed in Christian spiritual formation the dictionary may be too elementary.

In the Upper Room and Other Likely Stories 6 reviews Terry Bisson
Tor Books, 2001
One of our best living writers (The disclaimer): I've known Terry Bisson for 40 years and admired him all that time. The review): He is, hands down, one of our best writers and finest minds, and were it not for the ignorant bias that places "fantasy" literature in a sub-set of lower status, he would be recognized for what he is: an imaginative wizard, a technical genius, a superb stylist and one of the funniest guys around. ...

The Art of John Biggers: View from the Upper Room 1 review Alvia J. Wardlaw
Harry N Abrams, 1995
a beautiful volume on one of this country's finest painters John Biggers came to artistic maturity in an academic setting far from the art centers of New York. He was repulsed by the New York art scene that had so summarily dismissed black art when he had participated in a MOMA black student art exhibit. Perhaps his avoidance of the centers of art commerce were as responsible for the late acceptance of his genius as was the segregationist mindset in ...

The Riches of Simplicity: Selected Writings of Francis and Clare (Upper Room Spiritual Classics-Series 2) 1 review of Assisi, Saint Clare
Upper Room Books, 1999
Great Primary Source for Christian History and Homeschoolers Last year I used *Francis and Clare: The Complete Works* (Paulist Press) for a course in medieval literature and history at the classical school where I teach. We found it rather dry for high school students and, for the coming year, have adopted this volume, *The Riches of Simplicity* (Upper Room Spiritual Classics). Advantages: (a) it's shorter; (b) it's considerably less expensive; (c) it ...

The Night of the Child: Photographs from the Upper Room Museum Nativity Collection 1 review Tenn.) Upper Room Museum (Nashville
Upper Room Books, 2001
Beautifully written as usual Robert Benson has been a wonderful addition to my prayer life. He writes words that I could only think in my heart. This volume from the United Methodist Upper Room is filled with pictures of their Nativity creche collection. Mr. Benson writes about Joseph, Mary and other participants in the nativity story. The book is one I will read and reread each Advent season. It would be an excellent ...
