Encouraging
I am a B.Communications University student currently working on my dissertation. I am using quantitative techniques and am new to the subject. Using SPSS to solve statistical problems
The authors state that they wrote the books with two primary goals in mind. They have succeeded extremely well on both occasions. The book has made a tremendous difference in ...

Discovering Statistics Using SPSS (Introducing Statistical Methods S.) (2nd Edition)62 reviews
Andy Field

Sage Publications Ltd, 2005

Bless you, Andy Field!
This should be the first book you buy if you need help with stats and SPSS. When I first began doing empirical research I knew almost nothing about statistics or SPSS, and had to learn virtually everything I needed to know about complex multivariate tests on my own. I had suffered through many of the relevant, canonical books before I happened upon Field. It was a V-8 moment. Not only does the ...

Adventures in Social Research : Data Analysis Using Spss for Windows1 review
Earl Babbie, Fred Halley

Pine Forge Press, 1995

SPSS Review
Good book. Nice that it comes with SPSS Student Version software CD. (I didn't notice that for at least a month--it's in the back of the book.) The authors try to write in a cutesy, friendly way. Kinda fun sometimes. There are some typos in the book that caused me grief--in particular in the assignments at the end of chapters (that's how my professor assigned homework from the book). Some ...

SPSS Survival Manual: A Step By Step Guide to Data Analysis Using SPSS for Windows (Version 10)9 reviews
Julie Pallant

Open University Press, 2001

It Got Me an A on the Midterm
I was behind in class, I was not "getting it" and I was desperate! So I bought all the SPSS books I could find. Pallant's book is the one I used. Everything I needed to know and be able to do was clearly explained. The accompanying online database served as an example, showing me how to enter data. This book will not go on my bookshelf; it will remain on my desk through my dissertation and ...

A Handbook of Statistical Analyses Using SPSS1 review
Sabine Landau, Brian S. Everitt

Chapman & Hall/CRC, 2003

Very Practical
This is a great book for individuals wanting to learn more about SPSS and statistics in general. The chapters are fairly straightforward although the final two chapters dealing with factor analysis and cluster analysis are very demanding. It was nice to be able to download data sets from the internet and work through the problems. The book uses SPSS Version 11.0 and I had version 12.0. (I ...

A thorough and methodical work on Marketing Research

Using SPSS for Windows and Macintosh: Analyzing and Understanding Data9 reviews
Samuel Green, Neil J Salkind

Pearson Education, 2007

Good manual
Using SPSS is a good manual to navigate you through using SPSS. It is idiot-proof to follow if you just do what it says. Time-consuming to read the whole thing but good for picking out specific functions to learn. Would recommend this book. Includes a CD with data sets to use while following along with the reading.

Using SPSS for Windows: Analyzing and Understanding Data11 reviews
Samuel B. Green, Neil J. Salkind, ...

Prentice Hall, 1997

lifesaver
It had been a difficult couple of years. I had more life changes than most people have in 30 years, and not the least was that I had moved three times. In the middle of it all, I took multivariate statistics, a graduate course that I didn't have all the prerequisites for. I loved the course, but wow, was it hard. The sheer volume of the work nearly flattened me. Then I had an emotional meltdown ...

SPSS for Psychologists: A Guide to Data Analysis Using Spss for Windows2 reviews
Nicola Brace, Richard Kemp, ...

Lawrence Erlbaum, 2000

A very handy and useful book
I wish I'd found this book earlier during my undergraduate years. SPSS for psychologists covers from the most basic topics to quite advanced (such as factor analysis and logistic regression). It is very easy to read, explains how to do various statistical operations in SPSS and how to interpret them. I came across a few errors, though, but they were minor and I highly recommend this book!
