S. P. Fjestad

Blue Book Publications, 2008

29th Edition, Blue Book of Gun Values
My brother and father decided to sell several of their guns. This book gave an excellant estimation of their value. A couple were real suprises. We found that this book was the main reference of a couple of used gun dealers too. This book saved us from a coupld of expesive errors and paid for itself several times over.

The Little Book of Value Investing (Little Books. Big Profits)44 reviews
Christopher H. Browne

Wiley, 2006

Very clear indeed.
This a very clear and concise book--another one, all of which seem lately to contain the same wisdom: buy low (and buy smart). I'm trying. You can still pay too much, or buy too soon, or catch the wrong end of a falling knife, etc. But it's certainly a far better idea than taking hot tips from e-mails, or from brokers.

Active Value Investing: Making Money in Range-Bound Markets (Wiley Finance)37 reviews
Vitaliy N. Katsenelson

Wiley, 2007

Compelling Viewpoint
Mr. Katsenelson makes a compelling argument that the next 10 to 15 years will resemble the bear market of 1967-1982, when the Dow traded at or around 1,000 for 15 straight years. Though a sideways market poses challenges to every investor, Vitaliy presents a clear and concise method to profiting in such turmoil. Investors new and experienced, will be smarter for having read this book. This is a ...

Elementary Differential Equations and Boundary Value Problems66 reviews
William E. Boyce

Wiley, 2008

Not entirely useless
Ok, so I'm in the same boat as most of you here. I hardly even opened this book when I first took a course in differential equations. However, once I began taking higher level courses I found its introductory explanations of many forms of solutions (like Bessel Functions) to be useful. Although I don't believe it's worth using in a course in ordinary differential equations, it still makes ...

Culture and Values, Volume I: A Survey of the Humanities (with CD-ROM) (Culture & Values)3 reviews
Lawrence S. Cunningham, John J. Reich

Priceless Course Book
I love this book. It's beautifully arranged by the ages. Each chapter has a chronological map on Events, Paintings, Architecture and Written Works of the timeline. The illustrations are breathtaking. You not only get Botticelli's Birth of Venus, Leonardo's Mona Lisa and Rembrandts' self portraits, but description, motivation, history and characteristics. I learned that I love Renaissance ...

Value Investing: From Graham to Buffett and Beyond (Wiley Finance)30 reviews
Bruce C. N. Greenwald, Judd Kahn, ...

Wiley, 2004

A book I go back to again and again
I got this book from Amazon several years ago, have read it several times and applied it to my own investing. It is not for beginners, but does not require a Phd either. The authors present a rational philosophy and a unique, detailed method that will help you to really estimate the intrinsic value of a share of stock, and then they walk you through actual examples. The writing is interesting, ...

Bowes and Church's Food Values of Portions Commonly Used (Bowe's and Church's Food Values of Portions ...12 reviews
Jean A. T., Ph.D. Pennington

Lippincott Williams & Wilkins, 2008

Nutritionists Bible
I have used this book for over twenty years to help me plan how to eat around my irritable bowel syndrome. In the new edition, whether you are a junk food junkie or a health nut, everything you might like to know is in one reference. How much potassium in those raisins? Are you sure there is fiber in that cantaloupe? How many grams of cholesterol in that cookie? Name the food, name the ...

Selling Today: Creating Customer Value with Computers3 reviews

I had a professional selling class last semester and we used this text. This book takes great care to explain the importance of partnering and adding-value in sales. People can buy 'stuff' anywhere, but you have to really differentiate yourself to get ahead in today's market. There are also on chapters on qualifying prospects, creating sales presentations, negotiating buyer concerns, ethics, and ...

Sustainable Value: How the World's Leading Companies Are Doing Well by Doing Good5 reviews
Chris Laszlo

Stanford Business Books, 2008

Taking Corporate Responsibility to the next level
This is an important book. One often hears about the need for companies to `balance' social, environmental and financial concerns, but Chris Laszlo takes these concepts to the next level. He demonstrates convincingly that these three areas are all integral part of doing business. Ignoring a company's environmental or social impact not only puts financial interests at risk; doing so also means ...

The Hr Value Proposition12 reviews
David Ulrich, Wayne Brockbank

Harvard Business School Press, 2005

VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED BY STERN'S MANAGEMENT REVIEW.!
After the transactional work of HR has been automated, centralized, eliminated, or outsourced, what is left, and of greatest value, forms the core of this book. In brief, the book is about creating a business-oriented HR function. The book's springboard is a range of future-focused questions such as: - Why does HR matter so much today? - How can HR get line managers to be concerned about HR ...

Comprehensive Real Estate Overview
Real Estate Principles is an extremely readable, easy to follow introductory text to Real Estate. Value at Risk, 3rd Ed.2 reviews
Philippe Jorion

McGraw-Hill, 2006

New, Revised , Updated and Expanded Third Edition
It is an old axiom that investments with higher risk should pay a higher return. But how do you measure that risk to know what an appropriate return would be? Value at Risk (VAR) is a statistical method used to summarize the worst loss over a target horizon that will not be exceeded with a given level of confidence. Over the past 15 or 20 years since VAR began to be used the financial world ...
