Visualizing Data 9 reviews Ben Fry
O'Reilly Media, Inc., 2008
Great book, bad title I'm short of superlatives for this book or more generally for the work of Ben Fry.
In my line of work, how people think of graphs is very much influenced by what is possible to do in Excel without changing the default settings too much.
Enter Processing, a data visualization-oriented language, which makes it easy to create custom visualizations, tailored for the problem you want to address. ...

Visualizing Psychology (VISUALIZING SERIES) Siri Carpenter, Karen Huffman
Wiley, 2007
This text provides a new, visually-oriented look into the field of psychology. Rather than offering an encyclopedic printed text, Visualizing Psychology presents a straightforward, logically intuitive approach to the subject. With the help of illustrations and graphics, the book brings complex concepts to life. Huffman also uses a user-friendly approach to engage the reader.

Visualizing Physical Geology (VISUALIZING SERIES) 1 review Barbara W. Murck
Wiley, 2009
A great introduction to geology Visualizing Geology was written as a textbook for introductory college geology. I read it for enjoyment and was delighted with the book's organization and style. The authors have a remarkable understanding of what a neophyte (like me) will comprehend and find interesting. They augment comparatively brief descriptions with outstanding photos, diagrams and drawings. The result is a quick and ...

Visualizing Environmental Science, 1st Edition 2 reviews Linda R. Berg, Mary Catherine Hager
Wiley, 2006
Excellence choice for environmental science curriculum I'm using this text as the primary science textbook for my homeschoooled high schooler this year. The book is easy to read and includes lots of interesting and relevant visuals (photos, graphs, maps, etc., all with captions). It's scope covers all the major topics within environmental science. Each chapter has a chapter review (which include critical thinking questions) and additional online ...

Visualizing Physical Geography (VISUALIZING SERIES) 2 reviews Alan H. Strahler
Wiley, 2007
Great Book with Awesome Pictures! I purchased this book for my Geography class, and I have found it to be very informative. The National Geographic pictures are great and really help to "visualize" the information. The text is easy to read and understand. The visuals are helpful. I really like that it gives definitions of all of the vocab words off to the side of the text so I can easily understand it. Love the pictures!

Based on a partnership between Wiley and the rich resources of The National Geographic Society, this book presents the important concepts of human biology as they relate to the world we live in. It stresses the role of the human in the environment throughout, ensuring that topics such as evolution, ecology and chemistry are introduced in a non-threatening and logical fashion. This approach stimulates the reader to ask questions and pursue ...

Contemporary Social and Sociological Theory: Visualizing Social Worlds Kenneth D. Allan
Pine Forge Press, 2006
"The author succeeds admirably in making ideas intelligible by using the story-telling mode;as the introduction explains, each theory is presented as a story about some aspect of society." —Roma Chatterji, University of Delhi For a sample syllabus, please go to 'sample chapters and materials' Contemporary Social and Sociological Theory: Visualizing Social Worlds is a robust introduction to the world of contemporary thought. Visualizing Quaternions (The Morgan Kaufmann Series in Interactive 3D Technology) 2 reviews Andrew J. Hanson
Morgan Kaufmann, 2005
Beautiful book, decent content Beautiful production (typesetting, graphics, layout). The mathematics is on the informal, intuitive side. I consider this a luxury purchase, not an essential part of one's hardcore math library library. Somewhere on the shelf next to Tufte's books on visualization of data.

Visualizing Data 5 reviews William S. Cleveland
Hobart Press, 1993
A Valuable Tool This book was recommended highly to me by a former university professor (and now consultant). It exceeds my expectations. The figures and acompanying explanations are very clear, as is the language throughout. Visualizing Data discusses several tools with which I was not familiar, and clarifies tools that I thought I understood (including box plots). I have taken several university statistics ...

Visualizing Secured Transactions 1 review Laura B. Bartell
LexisNexis/Matthew Bender, 2007
Lots of tables and text are NOT charts and diagrams "This unique study guide uses visual aids such as charts and diagrams to foster student understanding and application of the law governing secured transactions." A problem with this study guide is that I did not see any charts or diagrams when flipping through the whole book several times. The rudimentary tables and text may be good, even great, but I saw no charts or diagrams. I was very ...
