The Longman Anthology of British Literature, Volume 19 reviews
David Damrosch, Christopher Baswell, ...

Longman, 2006

A great anthology!
I'm using the Longman Anthology of the Romantics and their Contemporaries (3d edition) for the first time in my 3d-year Romantics course (enrolment 88 and counting!) -- I would like to thank the editors for doing a fantastic job -- the introductory essay (pp. 3-29) is truly unparallelled for clarity, scope, and intelligence -- absolutely filled to the brim with great, challenging ideas. The ...

OVERPRICED MEDIOCRE BOOK
(Please note that this review was written by Cigdem Gokce, medical doctor and amateur artist.) Hello fellow Amazon lovers! I am writing this review to warn other potential buyers. Misled by the fancy and lengthy comments provided by the ...

The Norton Anthology of Western Literature, Volume 14 reviews

W. W. Norton, 2005

An absolutely delicious anthology...
I purchased this book for a class, but was delighted to discover that I will definitely want to hang onto it afterwards. The translations chosen for the 'Ancient World' portion are, for the most part, delightfully vivid and capture the spirit of the original language. I also like the layout - the margin size is just perfect for taking notes.

The Norton Anthology of English Literature, Volume 1: The Middle Ages through the Restoration and the ...10 reviews

W. W. Norton, 2005

Ahh! Get a cup of tea, find a cozy spot, and settle in...
If you're a book lover, how can you not love a book like this? It was my required reading for a literature class, and I was all too happy to have an excuse to buy it. Satisfyingly fat at 3000 pages, it exudes that delicious book smell when you flip through it, and its matte-sheen cover feels good in your hands and protects its sizable contents quite well. For me, this was worth getting just ...

World History, Volume II: Since 15005 reviews
William J. Duiker, Jackson J. Spielvogel

Wadsworth Publishing, 2006

Better than other History books I've had to read
This book was a required selection for a class that I am taking. I had read the negative reviews here on amazon.com and was very biased about reading it. But once I did, I found out how wrong they are. I have really enjoyed this book and it is well made and beautifully put together. I would suggest making your own opinions though. History doesn't have to be "boring"; it's up to you to decide for ...

America: A Concise History, Volume 1: To 18776 reviews
James A. Henretta, David Brody, ...

Bedford/St. Martin's, 2005

very readable; the narrative flows gracefully
The authors had a difficult task. To further shorten their other text, "America's History", by almost 50%. Yet they seem to have succeeded. The book has a logical narrative flow. That does not feel like a standard text. Quite expertly done. When you consider that very disparate topics are covered. Like reform in the Progressive Era, or the emergence of the US as a world power. But somehow, each ...

Flight Volume Five (Flight Graphic Novels)1 review

Villard, 2008

Wonderful Comic Anthology
The Flight Anthology - an anthology of short comics from people with an art background - is now up to the fifth volume. It's a wonderfully creative book - many of the artists are returning, but they still keep it fresh, and all of them are quite talented. Like the last few volumes, it starts off with Michel Gagne's ongoing wordless "Rex" tale, as good as ever; in general the writing ...

Engaging and Informative!
This is our second purchase of the Story of the World series. All three of my school age kids (6,8,10 yrs.) just love to listen to these tapes. It is giving all of us (mom included) a much more comprehensive picture of all the parts of history we have learned with other books. We highly recommend this product for your family as a history program or just for listening to in the car for fun. The ...

Worlds Together, Worlds Apart: A History of the World from the Beginnings of Humankind to the Present, Second ...7 reviews
Robert Tignor, Jeremy Adelman, ...

W. W. Norton, 2008

Excellent.
Unlike the previous reviewers I found Tignor's text to be a highly lucid and comprehensive account of world history. If you have not read much history than you will have to be patient at first with the writing style as it is chock full of information and concepts that can seem disconnected an quite abstract. Yet, if you have the perseverance to stick with it, you be rewarded with a rich ...
