Honolulu Waikiki & Oahu (Regional Guide)3 reviews
Glenda Bendure, Ned Friary

Lonely Planet, 2006

A Must-Have Guide
My sister-in-law and I used this book daily on our trip to Oahu. We started referring to it as "the Bible"! Lots of info but not overwhelming. Fun tips on how to navigate popular tourist attractions. All information was accurate and up to date for our January 2007 trip. Highly recommended.

John Grisham

Your Eyes Will Bleed as You Pour Through the Pages
Gwen Hailey calls her husband Carl Lee at work, tells him their daughter, ten-year-old Tonya is missing. Carl Lee isn't all that worried though, because his wife tends to be, well a little protective. However when he gets home he's met with the news that Tonya has been raped by a pair of redneck types named Billy Ray Cobb and Pete Willard. Tonya had been left for dead and Carl Lee is seeing red. ...

Oahu Trailblazer: Where to Hike, Snorkel, Surf from Honolulu to the North Shore (Trailblazer)19 reviews
Jerry Sprout, Janine Sprout

Diamond Valley Company, 2006

Our first visit to Waikiki
We found this to be an extremely well organized book for getting around and not feeling lost. It's a good one to read well before leaving to get an idea of what's there. Driving can be tricky and their maps inside were much needed. Places we never thought to explore delivered big payouts. Lanikai Beach for instance, was the most beautiful walk we've ever taken and famous Waikiki was wall to ...

Writing For Intelligent Readers
Michael Crichton does it again with another brilliant book covering fictional scientific story elements. I am a huge fan of Michael Crichton work and he continues to satisfy his intelligent base of fans with another page turning book. I read this entire piece over the holiday weekend and I was consumed from the first chapter. Michael has a rare gift in developing stories that move and characters ...

Frommer's Honolulu, Waikiki & Oahu (Frommer's Complete)9 reviews
Jeanette Foster

Frommers, 2007

Easy going vacation
I found this book made everything easy to find. Our daughter's wedding was our excuse to visit Oahu for the first time. Frommers made it easy to play tourist and wind our way through the streets of Honolulu without a hitch. Paid for itself many times over for its restaurant ratings alone. I personally give it high high marks for accuracy.

Oahu Revealed: The Ultimate Guide to Honolulu, Waikiki & Beyond (Oahu Revisited)112 reviews
Andrew Doughty

Wizard Publications Inc., 2007

Everything you need in one book.
As with most resort destinations there's no shortage of written material to mull through when planning a vacation. I ordered this book based on the reviews on Amazon and once I received it I put all the other material in the recycling bin. It was simply the best! My only regret is that I didn't order two copies as we're a family of four and quite often we found ourselves arguing over whose turn ...

I Am Legend507 reviews
Richard Matheson

Tor Books, 2007

Amazing Novel Not Just About Survival.
Just like many end of times tales, this book is the survival of one man alone in the world. However, what makes this book stand out from the others is the inner monologue of the character. Seeing how Robert Neville's psychological well being changed throughout the book was interesting-one chapter he would have it all together, the next he was crushing a glass in his hand out of frustration. I ...

Oahu Restaurants And Dining With Honolulu And Waikiki2 reviews
Robert Carpenter, Cindy Carpenter

Holiday Publishing Inc., 2008

oahu restaurants and dining
Delightful read! My husband & I contemplating a trip to the Oahu, to celebrate our 60th Birthdays, so we have been searching for a Dining Guide. We hit the jack pot when we found this little treasure. In addition to providing all of the practical information: dress code, price range, type of cuisine, the authors have given each dining establishment a personality in the Impression Section. With ...

Jerry Sprout, Janine Sprout

Diamond Valley Company, 2007

Well researched book delivers choices
This guide is the Real Deal and presents a Hawaiian Big Picture. I like to read travel guides and always put lots of time into choosing our destination. I'm the take charge one in the family and find it always pays to plan ahead. For Hawaii, I have to say this guidebook is at the top of my list for realistic answers to absolutely everything about every island. I was most impressed with the ...

Waikiki: Nine Walks Through Time
Veneeta Acson

Island Heritage Publishing, 2003

Take a walk in Waikîkî and awaken your imagination. It's the early 1800s: Waikîkî is all sand and coconut trees. Three rivers tumble down from the inland mountains, emptying into the ocean. The monarchy frolics in the ocean, rinsing off in the fresh waters of the rivers. Taro fields and duck ponds abound. The last part of the 19th century: It is the end of the monarchy. Princes Kaiulani and poet Robert Louis Stevenson read under banyan ...

Born and Raised in Waikiki6 reviews
Betty Dyer Sorenson

Limu Pr, 1994

Brought back all of my fond memories of the islands
Born and Raised is by far the best book about life in Hawaii that I have ever read. Mrs. Sorensen's masterful descriptions of the islands made me yearn for the great times that I'd had there. The tales of Punahou school brought back fond memories as well
