Acrylic Revolution: New Tricks and Techniques for Working with the World's Most Versatile Medium 44 reviews Nancy Reyner
North Light Books, 2007
Paint spattered Yes, that's right, this book is so much a part of what I do that it has paint spatters on the pages. And I think that's a real recommendation. This is not a book sitting pretty on my shelf, it's a living companion working with me in my daily art practice. How cool is that? Buy this book...

Watercolors by Winslow Homer: The Color of Light (Art Institute of Chicago) 4 reviews Martha Tedeschi, Kristi Dahm
Art Institute of Chicago, 2008
treat your eyes and mind to something beautiful on a dreary winter day I was browsing through the book store at the Art Institute of Chicago and was attracted to a new book that accompanies an upcoming exhibition at the museum. The beautiful cover of the book invited me to pick it up and open it. I know a little about Winslow Homer, but did not appreciate his accomplishments with watercolors until I flipped through this book. The staff at the book store must have ...

Watercolor in Motion: How to Create Powerful Paintings, Step by Step (Book & DVD) 3 reviews Birgit Oconnor
North Light Books, 2008
Best watercolor book I've ever purchased! Although this book mainly concentrates on florals, it addresses many common issues that newby watercolorists face. I've take a couple of classes but Ms. O'Conner makes her instruction clear and fun! I certainly have a better understanding of what effects water and wet vs. dry paper has. Thanks very a wonderful book and the DVD is a fab bonus!

Another Big Splash Rachel Rubin Wolf must be doing something right with now a tenth in the series. The Splash series is a collection of current watercolor artists and some of their most inspiring work.
This one is Passionate Brushstrokes. The colors, the ideas, the perspective of the paintings are once again terrific.
It is especially helpful, as an artist, to read from each artist their breakthroughs, ...

The Watercolorists Essential Notebook 24 reviews Gordon Mackenzie
North Light Books, 2000
THE best! As a fairly new watercolorist, I have purchased many, many books on the subject in an attempt to gain skills, learn techniques, expand my thinking, etc., etc. Some of those books have been helpful, but usually only a page or two of a 60-page book was exactly what I was looking for. In other words, I was disappointed! Long introduction to say that THIS watercolor book exceeded all my ...

A Dream for beginning artists and fans I have been a fan of Stephanie's work as a fellow artist. I like her watercolor technique and use of color in her artwork. I purchased the book, not to learn how to create art, but to better understand Stephanie's process as an artist.
Upon reviewing the book, I was very impressed with the presentation of the material and Stephanie's instructional style. It was very clear, and extremely ...

About the BEST of the BEST Watercolor Instruction Books This book is on the top of my list of books I would recommend to learn to paint and draw flowers in watercolor, and I have a huge number of watercolor painting books to compare it to. It is also great for learning basic watercolor techniques, as the beginning chapter cover everything a beginner would need to know, but it is a book for watercolorists of all levels.

Creating Textured Landscapes With Pen, Ink & Watercolor 4 reviews Claudia Nice
North Light Books, 2007
All You Need Yes, the title says for landscapes, ink, pen and watercolor, but really you could apply the techniques in this book to just about anything. It has a huge sampling of textures and how to achieve them. Since I am a beginner, I thought the techniques would be difficult to learn, but the directions are incredibly easy to understand and non of the techniques are time consuming (aside from masking). ...

A book well worth reading I thoroughly enjoyed "exploring warercolor". I found that the book covered a lot of territory in the watercolor field and that the explanations given were very clear. I have been painting watercolors for many years now and still learnt quite a lot from this book. In conclusion I would reall recommend it to anybody who is interested in watercolors.

Watercolor School Over the years, I have bought many watercolor books to help me get started painting with watercolor. I wish I had found this one first. It has the basics and more. The techniques and demonstrations are illustrated extremely well. The text is easy to follow, too. In some cases, it even gives two approaches to painting the same subject matter. Good color theory, too. I know I will use this now ...

Uplifting and creative extension of watercolour techniques This book is an exciting exploration into the possibilies associated with extending your watercolour skills. It covers a wide range of techniques using many and varied items that I would never contemplated (e.g. painting over stretched gauze). Some of the products are not clearly explained, however I'm sure that can be overcome using the email address provided.
