A Whack On the Side of the Head

How Can It Be Out of Print?
This book is hilarious, and I love to give it as a gift. Why is it out of print? Is the publisher crazy?

Roger Von Oech

Creative Whack Company, 2006

Ball of Whacks very useful for pain management
The Ball of Whacks can be a valuable tool for distraction and refocusing the mind during pain due to illness and disease. My teenage son has suffered a condition that causes him intermittent pain, anxiety and distress. I am continually looking for something to occupy his attention during such painful times. I have noticed that in mild to moderate pain, playing with the Ball of Whacks ...

Full Whack1 review
Charles Higson

Little, Brown Book Group, 1996

Smart Brit, keen wit, take a hit
This is a crime novel by a British guy who's also a stand up comic and a musician. No, none of that detective stuff, but like all good modern noir fiction, crime based on the man in the street. Dennis Pike, 34 and already going gray, is called on by two of his former cronies in crime, the Bishop brothers, for a new heist--of their former gangmate who's now made it big. Dennis is not too keen on ...

A Whack on the Side of the Head: How You Can Be More Creative60 reviews
Roger von Oech

Business Plus, 2008

Open the doors to the mind by lubricating the hinges!
Roger von Oech deeply understands that the creative juices flow best when people are relaxed and having fun. He does this by creating a common sense book that has easy to read, and powerful exercise to help tap into the creative nature that we all have. The book is a key element in critical thinking. It focuses on developing the left brain, right brain crossover. I found the book ...

Stack-n-Whackier Quilts (Another Magic Stack-n-Whack(tm) Book)23 reviews
Bethany S. Reynolds

American Quilter's Society, 2001

Great book!
I decided to tackle a stack-n-whack for my second quilt and loved this book! The beginning couple of pages did a great job of explaining the basic process. I found that cutting out the pieces was the hardest part and once that was done, the blocks went together so quickly. I can't wait to make the same quilt again in different fabrics and compare the two results! The illusions in this book are ...

Creative Whack Pack22 reviews
Roger Von Oech

U.S. Games Systems, 1989

Creativity Realized
I have two sets of the Creative Whack Pack. It is a very useful tool in helping to get unstuck when brainstorming for ideas. I used it in a "Creative Decision-Making" class in my MBA studies and it was useful in helping a group of mixed thinkers (creative and very linear thinkers) become unstuck. Our team actually came up with several creative solutions to a couple of problems. It is also a ...

Knick Knack Paddy Whack: A Novel14 reviews
Ardal O'Hanlon

Henry Holt and Co., 2000

Very Enjoyable
I first became introduced to Ardal O'Hanlon through the Father Ted BBC series. I found him to be very witty and his delivery was right on the mark every time! When I found out he had written a book I was dying to read it. I wasn't disappointed. I found myself not being able to put the book down. I won't go into details about the story (you can read the other reviews for that). I will simply ...

The Bright Idea Deck: Breakthrough to Brilliance8 reviews
Mark McElroy

Llewellyn Publications, 2005

White Collar People need a Tarot Deck too!
This deck was my hook into the world of Tarot. I call it the "executive" deck. For personal reasons I didn't want to read cards with overwhelming Occult symbology. When I found some of the cards in the Tarot of the Saints deck by the same publisher to be a bit of a stretch I found myself buying this deck. I now read with a mixed deck of 78 cards made from 5 different decks, the majority of ...

Out Of Whack1 review
Jeff Strand

Hard Shell Word Factory, 2004

Whacka Whacka Whacka
This was another fine example of Jeff Strand's ability to make a reader laugh. This book was outright hilarious! I enjoyed every single minute of it, even if toward the end I felt as though it could have wrapped up a little sooner. None the less a very quick and fun beach read. He never disappoints.
