Richard Nelson Bolles, Carol Christen, ...

Ten Speed Press, 2006

Definitely a crucial book for any teenager who cares about his/her future!
Wow! I wish I had this wonderful book when I was a teenager. I remember very vividly when I came across Richard Bolles' 'What Colour is Your Parachute', it was way back in the late 80's/early 90's. At that time, I was embarking on a journey to find out about what I wanted to do with the second half of my life. Naturally, I was attracted to this new book when I saw it in my local bookstore. ...

What Your Explosive Child Is Trying to Tell You: Discovering the Pathway from Symptoms to Solutions1 review
Douglas A. Riley

Mariner Books, 2008

Do yourself a favor, buy and read this book!
I have a six year old daughter who is on the Autistic Spectrum. For years, her behavior has made me want to throw myself in front a bus. I have read so many books promising answers to our problems but none offered more than temporary relief for us and our daughter. This all changed when I read and applied Dr. Riley's recommendations. Although not written specifically for special needs ...

What Is Your Spiritual Quotient?: How to Respond to Life's Toughest Issues with Spiritual Intelligence4 reviews
Mark Brewer

Destiny Image, 2008

Knowledge of God and Self-Assessment
I did not know what to expect due to the title of this book by Dr. Brewer. Then I read the very positive "endorcements" by the many well-known writers, teachers and pastors. The book covers for the new, young and growing Christian a package of evangelical and fundamental Bible-based education. I was kind-of looking for a suggested "formula" at the end for a person to carefully assess/measure ...

7 Weeks to Safe Social Drinking: How to Effectively Moderate Your Alcohol Intake6 reviews
Donna J. Cornett

People Friendly Books, 2005

A Winner for Anyone Questioning Their Drinking
This book has been a lifesaver for me. For years I enjoyed social drinking without problems, but the last couple of years I've questioned if I was drinking too much. This program showed me how to pace my drinking, how to make a drinking plan in advance before I started drinking(which really worked)and how to stick to my limit fairly easily. It also made alcohol less important to me - a huge step ...

Your Soul's Compass: What Is Spiritual Guidance?11 reviews
Joan Z. Borysenko

Hay House, 2007

Excellent resource if you want to change directions
Your Soul's Compass is one of those rare books that causes one to think. Unlike some many self-help books that say you can can change your life in so many steps, Joan and Gordon use an informal group of Sages across many traditions as a sounding board. The result is a solid cross cultural understanding of finding ones soul. The Sages, Joan, and Gordon, provide practical time tested ideas for ...

What Is Your Dangerous Idea?: Today's Leading Thinkers on the Unthinkable15 reviews
John Brockman

Harper Perennial, 2007

A treasure of ideas from 108 of our most creative minds
(Plus Richard Dawkins, who writes an Afterword.) I'll give you some dangerous ideas. Take steps to reduce the human population worldwide to around a billion people and keep it there. Take the biological desire of people to play house and be mothers and fathers, and redirect it into responsible stewardship of the planet. Don't like that one? Seems too draconian? How about this? End all ...

What Colour Is Your World?1 review
Bob Gill

Phaidon Press Inc., 2008

a must buy!
This book is incredible! I recommend it to families and pre-schools. It is vividly illustrated and encourages children to color their world in whichever way they feel. It suggests green bark, and brown leaves for a tree etc. I'm donating it to the pre-school where I worked. They are a Reggio Amelia inspired school and it fits perfectly with that philosophy!

What Your Boss Doesn't Tell You Until It's Too Late: How to Correct Behavior That Is Holding You Back4 reviews
Robert Bramson

Fireside, 1996

Excellent Guide to the Prevention of Self-Sabotage
Watching several people I admire repeatedly sabotage their careers by failing to recognize and fix the same recurring personality problems caused me to take a break from German-Jewish history and read this book. I have been an employer and an employee, both boss and bossed, and believe that we all can use a good (emphasize "good") self-help book now and then. This book enables the reader to ...

No Man's Land: What to Do When Your Company Is Too Big to Be Small but Too Small to Be Big5 reviews
Doug Tatum

Portfolio Hardcover, 2007

Now what?
Curious to know the origin of the word adolescent, I checked the Online Etymology Dictionary and this is what I found: "1482, from M.Fr. adolescent, from L. adolescentem (nom. adolescens), pp. of adolescere "grow up," from ad- "to" + alescere "be nourished," hence, "increase, grow up," inchoative of alere "to nourish" (see old). The adj. is first attested in 1785." According to Doug Tatum, most ...

What Color Is Your Diet?11 reviews
David Heber

Collins Living, 2002

The Best Weight-Loss Plan
I cannot say enough good things about this book. Almost a year ago, my husband decided he needed to lose weight (his doctor had been telling him to do so for years; he was verging into diabetes despite being on Glucophage, Glucotrol, and Lipitor). My husband's one criterion was he wanted a diet that allowed him to eat frequently during the day because he didn't want to be hungry. Enter Heber's ...
