First Meetings in Ender's Universe 52 reviews Orson Scott Card
Tor Teen, 2004
Great way to introduce your child to Ender I read the Ender short story when it first came out (before the novel) and remembered it when I saw the novel. This collection of short stories, including the original short story version of Ender's Game is a great way to get a young teen interested in the entire set of story's as they grow.

A War of Gifts: An Ender Story (Ender) 43 reviews Orson Scott Card
Tor Books, 2007
Great short story... I wasn't really sure what to think of this book before I purchased it. I'm a huge fan of all of the Ender's Game books, and actually I'm currently reading Shadow Puppets.
Despite being very non-religious, personally, I found it to be a great story of tradition and beliefs with that childhood touch. It brings back a lot of characters in Battle School, but mainly focuses on Zeck, the child who ...

Understanding by Design: Professional Development Workbook 10 reviews Jay McTighe, Grant Wiggins
Association for Supervision & Curriculum Deve, 2004
Backward design fan This book complements in practical form the ideas presented in Understanding by Design (UbD). I am using this book as a guide for the design of courses online in higher education. Both have been a wonderful aid to rationalize the amount of resources that I must include in the courses online that I am developing. They are effective tools to determine in concise form and practices the synchronous ...

Understanding by Design, Expanded 2nd Edition 30 reviews Grant Wiggins, Jay McTighe
Prentice Hall, 2005
Fresh approach to curriculum design I've used this book for three years in my graduate Curriculum Design courses for teachers. My students are practicing teachers who have seen dozens of lesson planning approaches and don't need some new theory just for the fun of it. But Wiggins and McTighe present a fresh perspective that doesn't so much replace as reposition traditional approaches. It boils down to what they call backward ...

Empire of Debt: The Rise of an Epic Financial Crisis 118 reviews William Bonner, Addison Wiggin
Wiley, 2006
Who was surprised? I just finished the book in time to turn on the news that my bank, WaMu, has been seized and sold in one motion. Now the boys in Washington are telling us that they were caught by surprise and have to craft a solution that needs to be passed in days if not hours. President George "Chicken Little" Bush has appeared to tell us that we will face the fires of hell if we don't pass his (and his ...

I.O.U.S.A.: One Nation. Under Stress. In Debt. 20 reviews Addison Wiggin, Kate Incontrera
Wiley, 2008
Can't wait to see the film documentary DVD The powerful people interviewed in this book really astounded me. It is a case of 'what do we do now' after reading this book and essential reading to really understand how America got to its current financial turmoil today.

Shadow Puppets 133 reviews Orson Scott Card
Tor, 2002
books bought I have just recently begun buying books online. I have been amazed at the quality of the "used" books. I don't believe many of the thirty odd "used-books" I recently bought were used at all; not a broken spine in the bunch There were a half dozen or so former library books- top quality, but specially wrapped book covers... This is good way to bulk up a personal library without burning a hole in ...

The Shadow Catcher: A Novel 19 reviews Marianne Wiggins
Simon & Schuster, 2007
Syncronocity is unbelievable Just as the our own lifes are ruled by time and chance
so was the life of this most famous artist, Edward Curtis.
A photographer captures art in all ways and this book
certainly is believable.
I was not the one driving the truck who enabled Wiggins
to describe our vast western prairie but I know who it was.

Read and understand the present 2008 Financial Disaster My son gave me this book three years ago. I read a few chapters, and then misplaced it. I found it on the book shelf ,just after the present Market collapse. I dove into it, and it gave me a real picture of how our country got into this mess. It's a must read for understanding the present implosion of our financial system

The Demise of the Dollar...: And Why It's Even Better for Your Investments (Agora Series) 11 reviews Addison Wiggin
Wiley, 2008
Clear & Engaging I found this book to be a page-turner and a quick read -- just one weekend.
This book is exactly what I wanted. Some reviews complain the book is too deep or not deep enough. That it has too much or too little investment advice. I'd say it's just right. The points are well-substantiated, but not boring, and the investment advice is both broad enough to offer options and targeted enough ...

Gold: The Once and Future Money 14 reviews Nathan Lewis
Wiley, 2007
absolute must read This book is absolutely unbelievable vuluable and probably worth paying 1000$ for it (or should I say, 1 oz of gold!).
Not only does it explain in details what the gold standard is, and how it has worked in the past, but it also gives a very good overview of the various currency systems used in the past, the various fallacies about currencies, gold, politics, economics schools, etc.
It also ...

University of Texas Press, 2008
Spectacular Imagery I have always been fascinated with old world photographic processes. After browsing through the book several times I was struck with the portraits themselves. While these portraits were recently done you easily get the feel that these cowboys are from a time gone by.
An incredible way of life incredibly captured by a talented photographer

Comic Artist's Photo Reference Women And Girls (Comic Artist's Photo Reference) 5 reviews Buddy Scalera
Impact, 2008
Good Buy One of the best photo reference books I've come across. I have it all stickied with post-its already. The CD-Rom is also packed with some good refs. I would've liked to see some more "group" shots but I'm not disappointed in the least with this book. I'd recommend it to anyone who likes to have a nice collection of female references handy on their shelf.
I can't wait for the "Men and Boys" ...

Speaker for the Dead (Ender Quartet) 409 reviews Orson Scott Card
Tor Books, 1986
Great book I thought this book was a very good book, It included a good deal of exciting science. It was very well written also the text flowed and was very easy to read. Most of all it was intellectually stimulating as it discussed many complex societal issues and ethical issues with out destroying the story. All in all it is a great work of fiction that is entertaining as well as sofisticated.

Children of the Mind (Ender, Book 4) (Ender Quartet) 204 reviews Orson Scott Card
Tor Books, 2002
Only book that has made me cry This is the only book that has made me cry. I cried when Ender died, (although he didn't die his aiua passed on to Peter) the character of Ender died. Through the series I have gotten so attatched to his character unlike any other character in any series. Through his guilt of xenocide, and hard life it was hard to read sometimess. Especially, when he had problems with Novinha in Xenocide, ...

Evidence of Things Unseen: A Novel 21 reviews Marianne Wiggins
Simon & Schuster, 2004
Don't read the back of the book This is a great story with rich language. My book group chose this book, and everyone enjoyed it. I rarely choose pages to mark, but marked two for the language. Others in our group earmarked many pages. Heed the warning about the back of the book. It gives away too much of the story. Pleasant reading.

Xenocide (Ender, Book 3) (Ender Quartet) 211 reviews Orson Scott Card
Tor Books, 1996
An O.K. Book in the Ender Series by Orson Scott Card This is the third book in Card's "Ender" series. After finding it hard to put the first two down, the third is a disappointment. Xenocide tries to span the known universe - with plots and sub-plots taking place on several of the 'Hundred Worlds'. It drags in a lot of places and is just too long for no purpose I can discern. I'm struggling to get through it and am not sure I'll continue with ...
