Sacred Sounds: Magic & Healing Through Words & Music7 reviews
Ted Andrews

Llewellyn Publications, 1992

Healing With Sound (Words & Music)
This is a very well written book, as Ted Andrew's books are. They provide a great deal of explanation, details, and how-to instructions. This book provides lots of background information on the use of sound, in words and in music and how sound has related to healing for many years, much of which has become a lost art. Ted covers a lot of history, for credibility and for understanding the ...

Celebration Hymnal3 reviews

Word Entertainment Music, 1997

A Very Usable Hymnal
I play the piano in church, and this hymnal offers some easier-to-play versions of some of the favorite hymns. I especially like their version of "His Eye Is on the Sparrow" and "I'd Rather Have Jesus". It's also larger print and offers a huge selection. I'm very thankful that I found this hymnal.

A very nice, intermediate level, solo piano music book. Each arrangement is 3 minutes or less long. Very nice arrangements of familiar carols.

Lyrics: Writing Better Words for Your Songs (Songwriting)2 reviews
Rikky Rooksby

Backbeat Books, 2006

This book is almost funny, with how much lyrical content it holds.
Rikky Rooksby has made some really great songwriting books. His best being "How To Write Songs On Guitar." I flipped through this book at a local store and I was laughing to myself, at how much detail Rooksby goes into, as far as lyrical subjects are concerned. He doesn't really go into full detail about how to write great lines, or how to write a life-altering song lyrically (that comes ...

Feasting on the Word: Preaching the Revised Common Lectionary, Year B, Vol. 21 review

Westminster John Knox Press, 2008

Well done
I've enjoyed what I've read so far. Good writers and a great idea of breaking up the four ways of seeing the scripture right on the same pages.

The Words and Music of Bruce Springsteen (The Praeger Singer-Songwriter Collection)3 reviews
Rob Kirkpatrick

Praeger Publishers, 2006

Excellent Overview of Springsteen's work.
The Words and Music of Bruce Springsteen is a very detailed look into Bruce's body of work. Rather than focusing on Bruce as an pop icon, the book looks at his songs, his albums, how they were written, what they mean and how each song fits into the theme of the album. It also suggests that each album is a building block for the next album, that all Bruce's albums are connected. The Words ...

Westminster John Knox Press, 2008

Nice way to bring many facets of sermon prep together
So far I've been happy with the quality of information and the depth of imagination. I look forward to much more use. The layout is done very well and the writings are diverse and short enough to read quickly.

The Way I Was Made: Words and Music for an Unusual Life14 reviews
Chris Tomlin

Multnomah Books, 2004

Great book on worship!
Having recently read a number of books on worship, I found Chris Tomlin's to be concise, extremely relevant, and well-written--kind of like the songs he writes, I guess. I think the biggest strength of this book is that Chris is so real. He doesn't try to come across as a saint, and so he makes the ideal of living out worship seem attainable. And it didn't hurt that I kept laughing ...

The Wheels on the Bus (Raffi Songs to Read)19 reviews
Raffi

Crown Books for Young Readers, 1990

A great book with many things to talk about
I bought this when my daughter was 13 months, and after 7 months she still loves this book. There are different people in the bus - adults, kids, elderly, pets, etc., and many things happening on and off the bus. When my daughter refuses to drink her milk, I'll turn to the page where the baby is happily drinking from the bottle, then she will take her cup and start drinking. Try Raffi's CD ...

State of the Axe: Guitar Masters in Photographs and Words (Museum of Fine Arts)2 reviews
Ralph Gibson

Museum Fine Arts Houston, 2008

Arty and atmospheric
This is a great collection of photographs, all guitarists of course, with a short one page text from the guitar player themselves which often is an insight into what makes them, them. A total of 81 artists, a fine balance between the famous, the cult and the guys pushing the boundaries. This is a work of art, highly recommended.

It's a Wonderful Life (Christmas at Radio Spirits)2 reviews
Various Artists

Radio Spirits, 2000

It's a wonderful radio play
In the golden age of radio, after a cast finished a film they would head over to Lux Radio Theatre and perform the same show for radio. "It's a Wonderful Life" is the same familiar story, with the same familiar voices. Each cast member does a great job reprising their role, while the music and sound effects recreate the atmosphere of the film. The radio version is abridged, and chimes in ...

More Songs for Praise and Worship 2 Piano/Guitar/Vocal Edition1 review

Word Music, 2002

If you lead worship...
This book is amazing- I am a Worship Arts student at a Christian college and I would highly recommend it to anyone who works with a worship team or just wants to play at home. It is easy to read and written for intermediate pianists. The vocal range is pretty broad, and the selection of songs is great.
