Best of Act One3 reviews
Anthony Warlow, Benny / Ulvaeus, Bjorn / Anderson, Stig Andersson, ...

Universal International, 2003

Best Of The Best!
Wow This CD Got Me Hooked! I just had to buy every one of his CDs after this. Experience here, the Best songs of the BEST SINGER! Australia's #1 singer, Anthony Warlow is known internationally for his role as Enjolras in Les Miserables from the 'Complete Symphonic Recording" and for recording the Complete Work of Wildhorn's "Jekyll and Hyde" in the lead roles. He has released a number of solo ...

Ultimate Broadway II: The Very Best of Broadway Now3 reviews
Various Artists

RCA Victor Broadway, 2003

Moderate Quality
I believe that the show selection for this CD was excellent. However the song selection and song order were not. Why pick "Your Daddy's Son" from Ragtime when you can have the amazing and fantastic "Prologue" from the same show. Also I believe that a mistake was made by slecting "I Don Quixote" from Man of La Mancha instead of the much more listenable "Impossible Dream." Also the overture from ...

Les Miserables Complete Symphonic Recording15 reviews
Claude-Michel Schoenberg, Martin Koch, ...

Red Ink, 2004

Less miserable!
I have this recording memorized front to back, and when my old cassettes finally wore out, it was time to replace them digitally. Well of course it sounds phenomenal, and the booklet has all the cast info plus all the lyrics and a synopsis of the plot. I can't compare this with the other recordings, but it's my favorite as I grew up with this one.

Pianoforte Opus 1:
We love this. I like the mix of music. It was because of this cd my 9 year old daughter wnated to learn how to play canon on our piano. She now is a great player because of this inspiration. She also learned how to play . Gymnopedies No. 1 . Thank-you for the inspiration and the many romantic nights.

Adolphe Adam, Stephen Adams, ...

Castle Pulse, 2005

Wonderful!
I bought this on a whim, as I like male choral groups. Am I ever glad I bought it! The music is soaring, and the voices are magnificent. I don't know all of the technical stuff about recording, etc.--I just know I love this collection!

Greatest Songs from the Musicals2 reviews
Jerry / Petty, Norman / Holly, Buddy Allison, Benny / Ulvaeus, Bjorn / Anderson, Stig Andersson, ...

Soho, 2002

Pretty good musical mix
Lots of great and clear vocals. I was looking for a musical mix and this has a nice sampling of many major songs but also some more recent stuff. I haven't purchased an import before but I would do it again if the opportunity presented itself. It is somewhat annoying to have three cds when I think it could have fit onto two. Still, more than I have complaints, I have compliments about it.

The Spirit of America44 reviews
Daniel Rodriguez

Manhattan Records, 2002

The Spirit will move you
I first heard him sing at a family funeral. His rendition of Ave Maria was so hauntingly beautiful that even people who were not already crying had tears in their eyes at the completion. This CD is excellent. Best version of "Danny Boy" I have ever heard. "The Lord's Prayer" is also very well done, very inspirational.I have purchased additional copies of this CD as a gift for others.

Miss Saigon (1995 Studio Cast)75 reviews
Claude-Michel Schonberg, David Charles Abell, ...

Angel Records, 1995

Superb
This 1995 studio recording is fabulous. While I don't necessarily prefer it entirely over the original cast recording, there are elements to this recording that are over and above the original. Joanna Ampil, while delightful as Kim, lacks Lea Salonga's essence. There are moments I find her, how shall I say it - too much? - even when the score calls for drama. Perhaps it is the over enunciation ...

Broadway - The American Musical (PBS Series)9 reviews
Richard Adler, Peter Allen, ...

Sony, 2004

Fabulous for any Broadway-lover
Packs into 5 CD's a sampling of Broadway tunes from the 20's thru (almost) today, mostly from original cast recordings. Includes not just well-known hits, but also some lesser-known gems. Sound quality is first rate, booklet is informative too. Have given this as a gift to several friends with rave reviews.

Proof that musicals can be sung without the "Belt-technique". Pure, beautiful and amazing! This is what I call crossover!

Leading Man11 reviews
Thomas Hampson, Richard Adler, ...

Angel Records, 1996

You alone can make my song take flight
Once upon a time Broadway was dominated by singers with real voices who did not need microphones to be heard. It's a trend all but gone and that is why this album is such an amazing breath of fresh air. Thomas Hampson is mostly known as a Lieder singer and an opera singer, his voice being that of a lyric baritone. His instrument is colorful and warm, velvety yet with the right amount of squillo ...

The Best of Andrew Lloyd Webber5 reviews
Andrew Lloyd Webber, Claude-Michel Schoenberg, ...

Madacy Records, 1995

Duh! I never heard of these guys before.
One of the oddest things ever attempted by Andrew Lloyd Webber was giving these unknown guys permission to sing his songs. But what are the names of the singers? And why did they do this? Questions aside, just get an ALW album by a familiar singer we all know and love. Céline Dion would make perfect for "Don't Cry For Me, Argentina," for one thing. I can hear Andrea Bocelli singing "The Music ...

Great Musicals1 review
Leonard Bernstein, Jerry Bock, ...

RCA Victor Broadway, 2001

The Title Is Accurate.
I'll be honest - I mainly bought this CD for one song - the new recording of William Finn's "Unlikely Lovers" from Falsettos. In fact, there is a sticker on the front of the Great Musicals CD which states the following - "Unlikely Lovers from Falsettos is new to CD." This isn't really correct. This particular recording of that wonderful second act song is new, but the song itself was previously ...

Love Changes Everything6 reviews
Kalle Magnusson, Benny / Ulvaeus, Bjorn / Anderson, Stig Andersson, ...

Dptv Media, 2004

This is great!
This CD has Broadway songs sung by a great singer. I especially like his rendition of STARS from LES MISERABLES. This song is not on many CD's besides the cast albums of Les Miserables. He is a very good singer. While you may like the original versions better, you won't be sorry if you buy this CD.

Instruments of the Orchestra7 reviews
Various Artists

Naxos, 2002

Very Informative and Enjoyable
Whether you're a music novice or pro, "The instruments of the Orchestra" is a very worthwhile purchase. The 7 CDs, with a total of 8 hours, are expertly narrated by Jeremy Siepmann. He's a great speaker, very much like the late Leonard Bernstein was. Mr. Siepmann takes you on an unforgetable musical journey covering the origins and use of the various orchestral instruments throughout musical ...

Varese Sarabande, 2003

A Taste of Broadway
I've been a fan of her since God only knows. I know she's not just talented but she is very passionate of (her) music. Knowing that she moved herself into broadways, it's rather of a challenge for me to listen to the songs especially when I'm too familiar with her pop genre. But after a while, I'm used to it coz Debbie is still Debbie to me. She's not afraid of re-arranging the original song to ...

Renee and Bryn: Under the Stars
Renee Fleming, Bryn Terfel, ...

Decca, 2003

In these days of the crossover, it is hardly surprising to find two great opera singers making a foray into numbers from Broadway musicals by such composers as Cole Porter, Stephen Sondheim, and Andrew Lloyd Webber. What's remarkable is that they seem completely at home in this music. Both say they grew up listening to it, and indeed they approach these songs with no less care and seriousness than they'd give the most demanding operatic arias, ...
