Pavarotti's Opera Made Easy-My Favourite Opera For Children4 reviews
Robert Massard, Sherrill Milnes, ...

Decca, 1994

Fun, accessible opera for you and your child to enjoy
I bought this CD for my then 3 year old son. He loved it then because it was the "Bugs Bunny" music he was familiar with from the cartoons. He listened to it for awhile then we put it away. After he turned 4, he said to me one day -- let's listen to opera, and now we listen to this CD every day. This music gets his blood going; he struts around his room when he listens to this. And, he is ...

A Carnegie Hall Christmas Concert16 reviews
Anthony Falanga, Felix Bernard, ...

Sony, 1992

uplifting
I saw this broadcast in 1991 or 1992 and have it on video. My only regret is that the concert is not available as a DVD, because the wonder is as much in the impassioned and dramatic 'conversations' between the three stars as in the sounds they produce. Still, until then, this is unforgettable stuff.

The Christmas I Love7 reviews
Andre Rieu, Johann Strauss Orchestra

Philips, 1997

A Christmas Collection That Is Just Plain Fun
Sometimes I think the only person who is happy that Public television is financially challenged, other that certain legislators who believe that it is too liberal and the culmination of all that is evil, is Andre Rieu. Now don't get me wrong, this happy Dutch musician who models himself after Johan Straus is not a cruel or vindictive person. At least from what I can tell he's not, but let's face ...

Pops Christmas Party7 reviews

RCA, 1994

Nothing Better Than A Pops Holiday
The Boston Pops have always made orchestral music more appealing to a wider audience, and Arthur Fiedler was the genius behind that success. Released in 1959, this album is full of everything from traditional selections from "The Nutcracker" to sing-along favorites like "White Christmas," "Rudolph" and "Santa Claus Is Comin' To Town" to the most famous recorded version of "Sleigh Ride," a Boston ...

The Best from Charlotte Church that You Will Ever Hear!
This CD is simply amazing! I can honestly tell you that this is the best from Charlotte Church that you will ever hear! Her voice in this stage in her career is so mezmerizing and well-trained! Soon after her second album, which was self-titled, her voice began to deteriorate, probably because of her constant smoking and drinking. Now, we've reached a low point in Charlotte's career, in which ...

Angel Voices: Libera In Concert22 reviews
Gustav Holst, Engelbert Humperdinck, ...

EMI Classics, 2007

Par for Libera
Libera's live performance at St. Peter's Church in Leiden, Holland, showcased a broad cross-section of their work. Despite the similarity in titles, the track listings for this live CD and the studio "Angel Voices" (the white cover) are not exactly the same. The fleet-footed, dexterous opening, "Adoramus" (first heard on "Free"), is almost the only number of its kind; immediately afterward, ...

The Joy of Christmas21 reviews
John Francis Wade, Anonymous, ...

Sony, 1997

Just As I Remembered
Raise the roof and sing praises on high! Play this if you cannot make it to church, and you will feel like you are there. The incomparable sound of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir with all the religious classics. A few oddities are tagged on at the end, the Nutcracker, Children's Prayer from Hansel & Gretel and the ubiquitous Handel's Messiah.

Ultimate Classical Christmas Album of All Time3 reviews
Ultimate Classical Christmas Record of All Time

Sony, 2002

Breathtakingly beautiful!
Over and over we played "Die Menge der Engel" - - it is stunningly beautiful! The loftiness of the voices, wonderful. We loved the boys/children's choruses on many of the other pieces on the album. Duets by Placido Domingo and Luciano Pavorati - - magnifico! It is a pleasant compilation of traditional favorites and awesome classical pieces that are worth listening to again and again.

Chandos, 2007

Captures all the magic of Hänsel und Gretel.
"When the need is greatest, God the Lord puts out his hand." Based on the Grimms' creepy fairy tale, Engelbert Humperdinck's Hänsel und Gretel is a magical experience in opera, and this recent recording captures all the magic of the live performance. (I experienced a live HD simulcast performance of Humperdinck's equally dark and charming opera in English from The NYC Metropolitan Opera over ...

Fright Night: Music that Goes Bump in the Night8 reviews
Johann Sebastian Bach, Hector Berlioz, ...

Sony, 1991

Good for Halloween Gatherings
If you're looking for a fun CD with spooky sounding music that reminds you of old Disney cartoons...I think that this CD was meant to be fun, NOT for the classical conisseur. It would be a nice CD for a Halloween gathering, or something similar, as background music.

Andre Rieu - Christmas Around the World8 reviews
Adolphe Adam, Felix Bernard, ...

Denon Records, 2006

Deck the halls with boughs of holly
I rarely buy Christmas music. I hear a lot it every where I go in public so why buy any? Well this year I have made a couple of exceptions. One being the Celtic Woman Christmas cd and the other Andre Rieu's "Christmas Around the World". Thanks to PBS and its annual pledge drive, I caught the latest Andre Rieu tv special and for once just fell in love with the music. Normally I don't really pay ...

Martha Stewart Living Music: Classical Favorites for the Holidays1 review
Adolphe Adam, Leroy Anderson, ...

Sony, 2005

Excellent Music Collection
I purchased this CD on iTunes and I love it. Martha's CD collection is very tasteful and the music is great background music. I'm not a big fan of Christmas music sung by pop stars, and so I avoid most modern releases, but this CD is all classical. Particularly love the song sung by II Divo and Placido Domingo. This is a classical album sure to please everyone. When I played it in my car my ...

Classical Wedding Music4 reviews
Johann Sebastian Bach, Ludwig van Beethoven, ...

Lumiere Records, 2006

Re-living my wedding music . . . ? Priceless!
Listening to the Lumiere String Quartet's "Classical Wedding Music," I was alternately squealing with delight ("this was played at MY wedding!") and shedding tears of joy ("this was played at MY wedding!"). Lumiere has done a masterful job of translating these classic pieces to the quartet form. The sound is rich and full. Yes, it works if you're listening for wedding music, but what makes the ...

Simple Gifts: Christopher Parkening9 reviews
Christopher Parkening, Johann Sebastian Bach, ...

Angel Records, 1990

Music that perfectly touches the soul ...
Christopher Parkening is the most musically inventive person playing the classical guitar today; you must purchase this CD if you haven't already. It contains exquisitely beautiful hymns & sacred music (arranged perfectly for guitar, I might add) along with Mr. Parkenings masterful transcriptions of works by Bach, Haydn, Mozart and Humperdinck. Above all, this is music that glorifies God and ...

EMI Classics, 2008

Unbelievable deal
I'm a beginner trying to find out what there is to like about opera. So far, I'm liking Verdi and am trying to find some best recordings. Scouting around on Amazon, people tend to go nuts about the Callas and Karajan recordings, so I went to the record store to buy a couple and came across this box. All of the ones I was looking at were in here, so this box was a deal immediately. Not to ...
