Legendary selections by a legendary voice
With special emphasis on the variety presented in this collection, this album has a broadness of scope that will appeal to anyone who appreciates the magic of the human voice. McCormack was perhaps the most popular entertainer in the world during his career, comparable with the superstars of today, only richer in the currency of his day. Though purists may have criticized his shift to the ...

One of the best SACD's I've bought!
First off, the music is just what the title implies. "Spectacular" The sonics, depth and overall sound stage is just awesome. Right from the beginning you're pulled into the sound. It's mastered beautifully. There's so much going on with the music, I actually felt I was sitting right in front of each performance. This would be an excellent disc to show off your system/speakers. A perfect example ...
Legendary Voices: Leonard Warren II

Superb singing, superbly restored
This is, without question, the best restoration of monaural opera singing that I have ever heard, and it's one of my favorite collections of songs to boot. I've been looking for Leonard Warren on CD for years, and for the sea shanties in particular. Now I've finally found them, and they're the closest thing to a stereo recording of Leonard Warren that you will ever hear. You will be astonished, ...

Great voice; good sound quality; complete with liner notes.
About 25 years ago, I went to a local record store that was owned by a nice elderly couple. They had been in the business since the 1920s and they still had some 78 rpm recordings that I bought out of curiousity. One such record was Leonard Warren singing "Blow the Man Down". I immediately became interested in Leonard Warren. However, for years could not find any other recordings on LP or later ...

A Wonderfully Done Collage of Celtic Tunes, Not to be Missed
This CD was purchesed in order for me to make a Musical Freestyle, which is a dressage ride (horse sport) set to music. I not only made a Freestyle the judges loved, but I also found a new favorite CD. This CD presents a beautiful collage of Celtic music. Every single song is wonderful, from the haunting "Countess Cathleen" to the perky, upbeat "Steps from the Highlands." Buy this CD, you ...

Irish Magic
This is my first CD of the Irish Tenors. And what a joy! I played it as soon as it arrived. I like the blend of their voices, the passion and enthusiasm they bring to this CD. What I find is a real treat is the words to all the songs are in the booklet.I love this CD.

Important Historical Recordings: the First Great Trombonist!
This CD is a compilation of only a very few of the literally thousands of recordings Arthur Pryor made as a trombonist during a span of about 20 years. Since they date to the earliest days of recording technology--all of the works here are from 1901-1911--the sound quality is terrible compared to our modern recordings. Although all sorts of manipulations were used to improve the sound, ...

An interpreter's magic that is spell-binding.
Here is a welcome to a "Nostalgia" series by Naxos, and a welcome into the 21st Century to the great Irish tenor John McCormack. Younger shoppers may not be familiar with this remarkable singer who once rivalled Caruso in the recording popularity stakes. Blessed with the naturally beautiful voice and the secure breath control that any singer might envy, McCormack had the additional ability to ...

The Young Bjoerling Sings Magnificently In His Native Swedish
Charming songs, sung with youthful ardor by an outstanding tenor who would soon win deserved acclaim in the world of opera with his voice and skill and dedication to his craft. The transfers seem to be very well done, although there seem to be occasional very slight wobbles, which may have been due to the nervousness of the young singer or perhaps to some pitch variation in the recordings. ...

A pleasant surprise
I've been buying a fair amount of very old recordings lately, and I have enjoyed this one more than most. Will Oakland has a high, strong voice that is distinctive and almost sweet-at least on Emmett's Lullaby, Tennessee Moon, and a few of the other standouts. Unfortunately, it appears this is the only recording of his work available. Billy Murray is also a top notch singer, as on Waiting for ...

Real music not synthesized
We checked this out from our library and my son really seems to respond to it. We like it better than Baby Einstein because it is real music not synthesized although I think my son likes the Baby Einstein as well.

A Christmas Delight
This recording is truly a delight for the holidays. It's refreshing to hear music that's you don't hear on the radio during the Christmas season. The selections are delightful. The orchestra sounds superb, the singing and the piano playing add a special charm to this recording, and the songs bring back memories of long ago. This is a must have for your Christmas CD collection.

One of the Richest High Baritones of the Century...
Leonard Warren possessed an unusual voice; a lyric baritone with the fullness of a powerful basso cantante. His high notes traveled into the upper baritone stratosphere, with a beauty matched to my ears only by Riccardo Stracciari... and he sang them with an ease most tenors can only envy. (And I love the tenor voice, don't make any mistake about that!) Listening to this two CD set brought one ...

Make Your Father Comfortable
This CD is not one of my faves, in fact I only play it when my father comes for a visit (once a year). Makes him feel at home.
