Well performed Trombone concertos
This disc collects all of the instrumental(ie concerto)music that is available for trombone. Interestingly the four composers on the CDlived at about the same time and same some location in Europe. These concerti for alto trombone are certainly not masterpieces, but they are highly enjoyable and well played by Trudel and the Northern Sinfonia. I would not recommend these to belong in every ...

Great discoveries - little known Haydn/Mozart era composer
Finally, CPO have followed up their highly successful first CD of Wagenseil symphonies - Georg Christoph Wagenseil: 5 Symphonies - 1999 - with an additional volume. And affixing the "Volume 2" to the CD title tells us more is to come. Manuscripts exist for over 50 symphonies from Wagenseil. Most are short (6-12 minutes), but that can sometimes be a plus - try listening to one of Hogwood's ...

An interesting look at the classical trombone.
Christian Lindberg has made another great CD. Lindberg has tackled some recently discovered compositions that were originally thought to be impossible to play on the trombone. He has never recorded any of these works before, and a trombone lover will love to listen to these beautiful works from the musical hub of the 18th century, Salzburg, Austria.

Don't miss this recording
Warwick Tyrell has made a remarkable recording here (sadly, it's out of print--try and get it anyway). It's rare to hear such musicianship combined with his level of skill on any instrument, let alone something as obscure as the 'bone. While the Currie is prone to turning the trombone into a sound-effect machine, all the works on this disk are solid tunes worth hearing. The Bracanin is the treat ...

Some underrated classics for a very nice price!
This is another great for the price Naxos CD which includes some very underrated pieces. The Wagenseil concerto is a real masterpiece. After hearing it on public radio, I was very surprised that it's not performed more often (perhaps overshadowed by the genius of Mozart). The slow movement of Krumpholtz's concerto will touch your heart and remind you of the composer's tragic life. Dussek's ...

A Beautiful Medley of Songs
I really enjoyed listening to this CD. It's very relaxing and soothing to the senses. The sound of the harp reminds me of heaven and all its angels. I simply adore all of the famous composers who contributed to this great treasure, especially Mozart. Usually, I love to listen to this CD while taking an afternoon nap or having a good cup of flavored coffee. So for the pleasure one recieves from ...

Splendid - More, More, More Please!!!
Authenticated manuscripts exist for over 50 symphonies by this little known contemporary of Haydn. If the 5 symphonies on this outstanding disk are any indication of the musicianship and quality of most of them, then recordings and performances of more of them is long overdue. This is absolutely one of the most enjoyable disks of 18th century music I have ever owned. Exquisitely played, ...

"ALERT AND INVIGORATING PERFORMANCES OF TWO OLD FRIENDS: The subtle inflections Jeffrey Segal brings to the trumpet's only genuine Classical concertos, the Haydn and Hummel, is just what the catalogue needs. His musical line is seamlessly stylish, velvety in its natural lyricism and boasting an attack as clean as a whistle. Both works are blessed with gorgeous orchestration although its essence is habitually under-explored in most recordings. ...
