Good for relaxing pregnant women
I stumbled onto this album whilst searching bit torrent websites for classical music. I don't normally listen to classical music but thought it might be relaxing for my pregnant wife. After hearing the quality of the performances, the arrangement, and the recording I decided to buy the album from amazon. All the songs you would expect from a "best album in the world" are there and they are not ...

great collection
If one was wanting to introduce a friend to the wonderful world of opera, this would be a great cd to buy them. Also at this time when many of us are worrying about Luciano and his health , it is great to hear him featured on many of the selections. A great buy and wonderful collection.

Mario Lanza's music brings back memories of when I was a little girl. He introduced me to classical/opera music which I enjoy now. Great CD!

Great for kids!
I'm generally not a fan of music "samplers," but opera can be tough to introduce to children. And hey--even adults played cards, ate, and talked through the recitative sections of the early operas while they waited for the next aria! So I feel that getting kids hooked on opera through great arias probably can't hurt (the next 10 years or so will determine whether I'm right or not). My 4-year-old ...

Beautiful duets...
This CD is really awesome. I'm new to opera, but love the music on this CD. I use opera music in my CD clock radio (Timex from Amazon) to fall asleep to. What a way to fade into dreamland.

I listen to it over and over
I wish there were more DVD's like this that were filmed in high definition. This is like going to the theatre or yes, being at the concert itself. I would have liked to have been there are the time, but this performance puts you right there and you are part of it. There's something about a live concert that makes it a simply joyous affair. Attending a live concert on DVD is a great way to ...

The ultimate Carmen
Maria Ewing is, to me, the perfect Carmen. Too often, I have seen Carmen portrayed flatly, as a haughty, contemptuous, disdainful manipulator of men. Ms. Ewing, using the same songs and dialogue as others who have aspired to the role, manages through her expressive acting and nuance, to convey a rounded character, as much a victim of circumstances as a player in manipulating the circumstances ...

1 of 2 of the most important boxed sets ever released
Most people considering this set are probably already familiar with Karajan's work and probably already own quite a few of his EMI recordings. Therefore, there really is no need for me to get into depth with regards to the quality of the conductor's work or the recordings. As previous reviewers have stated, it is at a bare minimum, satisfactory; in most cases excellent. There was a complaint ...

Fun, accessible opera for you and your child to enjoy
I bought this CD for my then 3 year old son. He loved it then because it was the "Bugs Bunny" music he was familiar with from the cartoons. He listened to it for awhile then we put it away. After he turned 4, he said to me one day -- let's listen to opera, and now we listen to this CD every day. This music gets his blood going; he struts around his room when he listens to this. And, he is ...

Very special recordings of "standard" Bizet works
These frequently recorded Bizet works (L'Arlesienne suites and incidental music, and Carmen suite) receive a very refreshing expression in this new recording by Marc Minkowski and his Louvre musicians. French music is unique and is best performed by the French. In these recordings the band captures the feeling of the music like none other that I have heard.

This is a wonderful CD to sing along with in "rotten" traffic. All of a sudden, it just dosen't matter that much. If it can do this for me, it will help even the most "miserable" (in thought, word and deed), driver. Worth having in the car.

Don't Miss This!!
Anna Netrebko and Rolando Villazon are today's operatic royalty and hot [stage] couple. The attention is certainly deserved; they are MAGIC. Tragedy, comedy...Perfect. This selection of duets is a great opportunity to see what all the fuss is about...my own favorites were the cut from La Boheme, the fountain scene from "Lucia", and the duet from "Romeo et Juliette" [shades of Sayao and ...

A TREASURE OF SINGING ----- IN A LAVISH PRESENTATION
Marilyn Horne is plainly one of the greatest classical singers ever heard. She stands beside Caruso, Bjoerling, Flagstad, Callas, Sutherland, Caballe, Domingo, Pavarotti and every other "great". Horne's mezzo-soprano voice was astounding, with booming chest tones, a seamless middle, and a flaming top. Moreover, she had the rare ability to execute the most intricate and fearsome bel canto ...

Excellent compilation, but...
...be forewarned. Anyone who already purchased 'Pavarotti Greatest Hits' released a decade ago in 1997 (also often referred to as 'The Ultimate Collection'), will already have this material released in this form, even if the artwork is quite a bit different. This is a quick and (I unfortunately have to say a bit) dirty repackaging of the earlier set, without benefit of remastering or any ...

A Sampler of Greatest Hits and Karaoke, Too
It really doesn't get much better than this CD. The primary benefit of the music is that it is a terrific selection of funny and touching arias from the classical genre. I am an opera lover and bought this for myself to memorize the words in English, as prompts when I listen to the pieces untranslated. I started listening to the CD while I was driving, and within a week had bought about a dozen ...
