Han-Na Chang - The Swan9 reviews

A deeply moving recording
I have been a fan of Han-Na Chang since her debut disc came out 5 years ago. Since then I have followed her career intently. I haven't been disappointed so far. She is a cellist of great sensitivity, and no less fire! If her first two discs were previews of things to come, this disc represents full maturity that is evident in Chang's playing. On first sight, this may look like a well-marketed, ...

THE ROMANTIC VISIONS OF THE AMAZING CELLIST HAN-NA CHANG
Five LYRICAL Stars! This is a marvelous cello & orchestra performance! Cello virtuoso Han-na Chang has been one of the leading cellists in the world since her development following her breakout win, by unanimous vote, at age of 11 in the Mstislav Rostropovich International Cello Competition (two awards no less) over a decade ago, and this latest CD should only add to her international fame. She ...

best performance of this masterpiece
Whoever this cellist is, she's sublime! This is the best performance outside of Rostropovich (of course) that I have ever heard of this piece. She captures the nuances of the piece's passions, which is uncharacteristic of Prokofiev's music. An amazing recording.

Shostakovich: Cello Concerto No. 1; Cello Sonata2 reviews
Tim Jones [horn]

EMI Classics, 2006

great
Great talent~ Han-Na Chang gives musical, well-thought out interpretations of these two works. Like Sarah Chang in her interpretation of Shostakovich's Concerto, when the need arises, Han-Na Chang plays with great virtuosity, unparalleled energy, and a burning intensity. I only wish she would have taken the first movement of the concerto a little slower; it was a bit too fast for my taste.

EMI Classics, 1996

Beautiful and mature performances from a gifted prodigy.
The great cellist Rostropovich took a special interest in the exceptionally-gifted young cellist, Han-Na Chang, and conducts the accompaniment on her debut recording. Listening to this incredible young artist one can understand why Rostropovich regarded her as special. Personally, I've never heard a better performance of Tchaikovsky's Roccoco Variations and her performance of the Saint Saens ...

Soothes the Soul
Two weeks ago, I was sitting in a bookstore when the strains of music came over the sound system and distracted me from my reading several times. But this distraction wasn't Johnny Paycheck's "Take This Job and Shove It" (vile), "The Streak," or "Honey, I Miss You." (Oh, the bile)! This is one of those DVD's you don't have to think about if you have any inclination to the classical. It was a ...

All of the EMI's series are inexpensive and worthwhile. If you don't mind short selections and exerpts, this series is a good, inexpensive way to get into classical music.I have the whole set,or most of them.

Haydn: Cello Concertos/Lo Speziale Overture2 reviews
Joseph Haydn, Giuseppe Sinopoli, ...

Angel Records, 1998

Fine Performances of Haydn's Cello Concertos
Hopefully EMI will reissue this fine recording soon, as a memorial to the late Giuseppe Sinopoli. Both he and his beloved Dresden Staatskapelle give warm, vibrant performances of these Haydn scores, acting as admirable accompanists to cellist Chang. At times they sound more like a chamber orchestra than a full fledged symphony orchestra. Chang's playing is exemplary, rich with warm, brilliant ...

Best of the Best collection of Relaxing-meditative classical music
ONe of the best CD music investments I have made. Use it primarily for relaxation/meditation but it will also work well with massage environment. It goes from spine tingling inspirational to soothing and relaxing. Totally shifts my conciousness to a higher plane.
