Why are you waiting?
Ashkenazy is one of the titans of Chopin. Davidovich and Arrau are the other two. They're all you need. Get Davidovich for the concertos, (inlcuding the Krakowiak--Op 14), Arrau for the nocturnes and a few micscellaneous pieces. Ashkenazy handles everything else. (Btw, Ashkenazy vs. Davidovich re. the impromptus is a toss up. But since the impromptus aren't on this disc, you can make that ...

Wonderful collection and price!
I found this to be a nice collection of favorites, especially to keep in the car and listen to. It is a variety of well known compilations. Although not encompassing, it is perfect as a review for driving, relaxing, and enjoyment. Plus, the price is right!
Mozart /Chopin/Rachmaninov: Richter - Classic Archive

Euroarts, 2008
Richter at the Barbican
This recital was originally broadcast on BBC-TV in 1989. Richter was 74 then but clearly had not lost any of his powers. He had, however, developed some idiosyncrasies that have a bearing on this recording. He was playing this recital, consisting of three Mozart sonatas and a selection from Chopin's Op. 10 and 25 études, before a live audience but insisted on having no lighting on the stage ...

Both thrilling and interesting
I'm more than a little surprised at the couple of negative reviews of this cycle. But maybe these reviews indicate what is distinctive in these performances. Uchida plays Mozart in a decidedly unromantic fashion, which is most obvious from her avoidance of the sustaining pedal. Thus, the notes "decay" quickly. She is extremely sensitive to contrapuntal detail, and she is exquisitely ...

A Must Have
These two really sound good together. If you're not so impressed with the music when you first hear it (I don't know if that's possible), check out the DVD that comes with it. You will gain such an appreciation for the music that's being played. Watch out for the guy making the banjo jokes. This CD is really an incredible work, I can't say it enough. Very relaxing music.

A Wonderful Introduction to the Classics
With total playing time clocking in at 78:04 minutes of music, you'll be paying about 6-cents/minute, which is a better bargain than long distance phone calls, and often more rewarding! This disc is far superior than most other "Classics for Kids"-type recordings I've sampled for a number of reasons: 1) This album was expertly engineered. The production quality on this disc is first-rate from ...

Excellent listening
I purchased Volume 1 and 2 at the same time and in the short time I have had them I have listened to all selections at least once and some twice or more and my conclusion is that this is an excellet buy and addition to your music library. Selections in Vol 2 are less well known but all are excellent.

A Top List Christmas CD
I bought this cd long ago, and have enjoyed it immensely each year. It is the perfect blend of celebration and meditation. Orchestra and choir combine in four distinct groupings, and a capella arrangements complete the masterful collection. The orchestral arrangements will make the hairs on your neck stand up, and your stomach quiver with all the excitement you ever felt as a child at ...

Great price for every note written by Beethoven
I have the complete sets for Mozart and Bach too. Overall they pick pretty good versions of each piece, but at this price, you can use it as reference to fill out with specific artist, later. This is compact in packaging and a great gift for people in apartments or students who are learning about the essential classical music created in our world. They did a good job and you will benefit from ...

Good for relaxing pregnant women
I stumbled onto this album whilst searching bit torrent websites for classical music. I don't normally listen to classical music but thought it might be relaxing for my pregnant wife. After hearing the quality of the performances, the arrangement, and the recording I decided to buy the album from amazon. All the songs you would expect from a "best album in the world" are there and they are not ...

Wonderful, wonderful music
Even though I have a lot of other Bach records, this is different, like being in the ocean. What a joy. Buy it; it's unbelievable. The organ works, violin and harpsichord material, and most concertos and orchestral works, have NOTHING wrong with them per se; if you are already in love with someone else's performance then no other player will please you. There are isolated twangy items, but ...
