Nothing to get excited about.
I have had great luck with Naxos recordings. I have been able to get a lot of outstanding music at a bargain price over the years. This CD is one of the few disappointments I've encountered. My primary complaint is the heavy-handed execution of the pieces. It seems that the artist is "punching" the notes out, and this approach becomes tiresome after a while. In comparison, similar material played ...

For the classical generalist.
If you are looking to stock your classical musical shelves with a broad range of recognizable pieces, then this disc is for you. Otherwise, this album is not that great. Essentially it consists of the overplayed classical standards that happen to be Polish. If you are looking for a better introduction to modern Polish classical then try "The Varsovia Quartet play string quartets from Poland" ...

good selection
my cds were standard recording quality an overall good selection. It is sometimes hard to jump from different composers, but the cds flow well overall, an excellent way to catch a masterpiece you might have missed.

Wonderful Background Music
This is a wonderful cd of beautiful, peaceful, classical piano music. I play the cds (two come in the set) for background noise while my baby sleeps. That way I don't have to be as quiet as a mouse in the house, and I can enjoy creating a relaxing environment and mood for myself while my baby is sleeping.

An entertaining collection of "guilty pleasure" piano works
I enjoyed this album of "forgotten" piano works that are rarely performed in concert halls today, but were popular, especially among amateur performers, during the late 19th century, the "Golden Age of the Piano." In that prerecorded era of music, the piano was a central form of entertainment in many middle-class households. While many of the songs on this collection may not constitute great or ...

Peaceful, Uplifting Selections From a Masterful Artist
Beautiful, flowing selections from the likes of Chopin, Brahms, Schumann, Bach and Beethoven interspersed with some delightful surprises: a 17th century French carol, an awe-inspiring arrangement of an old hymn, a contemporary inspirational song and an original piece by the artist. A soul-settling, peace-giving, spirit-lifting album of fine piano playing. A not-to-be-missed collection. Listen to ...

DEMUS Still Shines...
Totally agree with "pigpig". At first, I didn't know who plays this album. Later, found the performer is Jorg Demus. Bingo! This album has almost all aspects of him. Beautiful, warm, well-balanced, clear and, as Angela Hewitt once said about him, "so human" playing and interpretation. Though 'unfairly' lesser-known than Gulda and Badura-Skoda, his Viennese colleagues, Demus has always come into ...

Rather soporific (but much better when played on high-end equipment)
I'm afraid I have always found this CD to be rather soporific, although that is a purely subjective reaction. The main reason for this, I assume, is the programme, which is not specifically romantic and combines such diverse composers as Mozart, Tchaikovsky, Chopin and Mendelssohn with a somewhat sentimental arrangement of 'Greensleeves' and some excruciatingly twee pieces by second and third ...
