The Mozart Effect Music for Children, Volume 2: Relax, Daydream, & Draw7 reviews
Don Campbell

Children's Group, 1997

Soothing for all ages.
I used this CD while elementary students were taking a test. They loved it and so did I. The selections were chosen carefully to be soothing and uplifting. This CD is an excellent way to introduce anyone of any age to Mozart. It can be played in the background while you are working. I listen to it in my counseling office.

Baltic Exchange
Praulins, Einfelde, ...

Hyperion, 2010

With choral music at the heart of musical life in the Baltics, it is not surprising that the medium has been a central preoccupation for many of their composers. And while there is certainly no such thing as a pan-Baltic style (this recording offers only a glimpse of the choral riches to be found in these three tiny countries) all the composers on this disc share a number of characteristics -- a sure-footed handling of choral orchestration, ...

The Mozart Effect Music for Children, Volume 1: Tune Up Your Mind4 reviews
Various

Children's Group, 1997

My children enjoy it...
I am a music teach for young children and I don't believe simply listening to music will make children smarter. However, this is wonderful music that relaxes my children and seems to help them concentrate. If they can concentrate better, they probably will learn better in the end.

Requiem & Magnificat/Rutter, Cambridge Singers32 reviews
John Rutter, Cambridge Singers, ...

Collegium, 2000

Why I Like Tthis CD
This is an excellent CD. I had an ulterior motive for ordering it, however. I sing in a local Choral Society and we are performing it this coming weekend. I wanted the CD to follow along at home and get my part down a little better. I do very much enjoy John Rutter's music and the Cambridge Singers are very good.

Cambridge Singers - Lighten our Darkness (2 CD)4 reviews
Louis Bourgeois, William Byrd, ...

Collegium, 2006

Marvelous
This is superb a capella singing. Each note, each syllable, is just right. John Rutter has a genius for writing and, as is the case here, performing religious choral music. The sound is gorgeous. Highest recommendation.

Gloria: The Sacred Music of John Rutter7 reviews
John Rutter, The Philip Jones Brass Ensemble, ...

Collegium, 2005

Seamlessness
Absolutely incredible performance. No overdubbing here, friends. With Rutter at the helm, this group plays as if the piece never existed on paper, floating seamlessly through this many metered montage of ethereal aural bliss. Buy this now, strap on your Sennheiser's and prepare for a very serious voyage.

It's Beauty Revealed, At Last
This Collegium COLCD 109 is a later release of the Collegium COLCD 101 which I purchased circa 1985 after reading glowing reviews in Grammophone magazine. COLCD 101 is labeled Stereo/Digital. COLCD 109 is labeled Stereo/DDD. Is it a re-mastering? Liner notes don't say, but the new version provides noticeable improvements in vividness and clarity. The release of COLCD 101 was a watershed ...

Sing Ye Heavens - Hymns for All Time12 reviews
Cambridge Singers, John Rutter

Collegium, 2000

Another Rutter Keeper!
Rutter has won many fans throughout the world for his passionate, creative yet tasteful contributions to church music. Here is a hymn collection with several traditional choices along with Rutter originals. Several comprise Rutter's remakes, which is most cases are very diginified and not at all distractive to the thrust of the original. The orchestration is superb, and the Cambridge Singers of ...

Mass of the Children10 reviews
John Rutter, City of London Sinfonia, ...

Collegium, 2003

Beautiful!
I sing with my school choir, and was blessed to be able to perform the Mass of the Children with the school. It is a beautiful mass-- the lightness of the childrens voices with the power of the adult choirs make a moving and powerful mass. The orchestra is stunning, just enough to add beauty to the piece. Rutter's Mass of the Children is a must-have for any person who enjoys this type of music.

Brother Sun, Sister Moon10 reviews
Gregorian Chant, William Byrd, ...

American Gramaphone, 1990

Light and shadows
Recorded in the Great Hall of University College School, London, the Cambridge Singers under the direction of John Rutter produced a true masterpiece in 'Brother Sun, Sister Moon' in 1988. The title derives from a famous prayer by St. Francis of Assisi, and is inspired by liturgical music from (or derivative of) the Middle Ages and Renaissance polyphony and Gregorian chant. The music is ...

NOT OF THIS WORLD
Tabula Rasa: Silentium : This music is not of this world. I worship/pray in silence while driving with this music on with a palm facing the windshield. The haunting, surreal background...the two main violins mournfully cries out aloud...yet so beautiful...my heart cries with them.

Mozart: Vespers K. 321 & 339/Ave Verum Corpus; King's College Choir, Cambridge; Hilliard Ensemble5 reviews
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Stephen Cleobury, ...

EMI Classics, 1989

Outstanding
I pretty much agree 100% with the first review, except maybe I'm not sharp enough to detect any lack of recording quality. I was too busy being enthralled with the music itself. Tracks 1 & 3 are my favorites. As an aside, I am a huge Mozart fan; I have the whole collected works on Brilliant Classics, and love it. This recording is better than the one on Brilliant Classics. For my copy of ...

Absolutely glorious!
These musical performances are done with consummate artistry. The attack, the phrasing, the tempi, the interpretations are all presented with professionalism and first-rate musicianship. The organ and the setting, as well as choir and director, are associated worldwide with the very best in church music and this CD does not disappoint. Beloved church choral classics are all here and all ...

O Come All Ye Faithful: Christmas Carols at King's College, Cambridge22 reviews
King's College Choir

Decca, 1990

Great Chorus Christmas Classic
Along with ROBERT SHAW'S great christmas (chorus) recordings, KINGS COLLEGE CHOIR deliver a similar style as that of ROBERT SHAW and I can tell you, you're getting a first class chorus all the way on this 1980's recording. The whole cd seems flawless from my side and I can say that many have this christmas recording as their favorite of all-time. It is a classic christmas album of religious ...

The John Rutter Christmas Album25 reviews

Collegium, 2002

Good for Chorus Members!
This is an excellent Christmas album! John Rutter is truely a wonderful contemporary composer. As a member of a symphony chorus that sang several Rutter numbers this year, the album was a big help in learning some of his lesser known carols. Thanks!

The Best Classical Album in the World... Ever!11 reviews
Stanley Myers, Antonio Vivaldi, ...

EMI Classics, 1996

Forget what they SAY
Many of these prior reviewers complain that the abundance of operas and vocals degrate this compilation. They don't know what they're talking about. These genres are what made Classical music popular in it's age. In that era the forum for showcasing "classical music" was operas! Hence why most of these works are lost in the shuffle. Most of us know Mozart and Beethoven's compositions by ear ...

Best Loved Hymns7 reviews
Stephen Cleobury

EMI Classics, 2001

Buy this CD!
Having heard Kings College Choir twice, in the flesh, at Kings, this CD is a wonderful example of what you might hear. If you can't make it to Cambridge, buy this CD. It contains many of the old favorites and also some hymns that are not found on other English hymn CD's.

Handel - Coronation Anthems / Gritton, Blaze, M. George, Choir of King's College Cambridge, AAM, Cleobury6 reviews
George Frideric Handel, Stephen Cleobury, ...

EMI Classics, 2001

Crowning Achievement
If you only have room for one recording of the Coronation Anthems in your collection, this CD will do splendidly. It's pure, lively and 100% fresh Baroque and the chorus really gets into the act. The heavenly harmonies of "My heart is igniting..." and "Upon Thy Right Hand..." are royal pleasure. But as if this wasn't enough, this disc also contains the Ode for Queen Anne, and with it, the most ...
