White Oleander (Widescreen)97 reviews
Alison Lohman, Michelle Pfeiffer

Warner Home Video, 2003

Quick ship - Perfect Condition
I loved this movie. Michelle Pfeiffer's character was so creepy, and she WAS her character. Especially her eyes - from the long stares to the furtive glances. Even her supposed redemption was negated by her eyes - glance, stare, meaning behind the act. The story was heart-rending, and the movie is NOT for those looking for action and Rambo. This is just a well-acted and directed movie with a ...

Great Movie - Very disappointing disk
When I first saw this movie on cable about seven years ago I was very pleasantly surprised how entertaining and thought provoking it was. I won't get into a lot of details except to say that I like the way the movie makes you think and the scenery and costumes of 1937 LA is very convincing and contrasts greatly with the dark, chrome and glass look of the present day LA. I think the acting is ...

great movie, pointless BROWN COVER version
This review is about the version with the brown cover with a leafless tree behind the black letters BIG FISH. It contains two things: the exact same movie you get for a dollar more than half the price of this version and a hardbound booklet. The booklet contains thirteen pages with one or two sentences on it, and ten pages with a drawing or picture. That's it. If you think such a booklet is worth ...

Halle Berry, Benicio Del Toro

'Lost' Under the Radar
"Accept the good." Three words never meant so much after the loss, despair and redemption the characters in "Things We Lost in the Fire" experience. The plot is simple, straight-forward, and broken into pieces with glimpses of the past. Though seemingly episodic, the actors elevate the material to something truly special. Halle Berry delivers her finest performance as the distraught widow of ...

Matchstick Men Has A Great Twist Ending...
Matchstick Men is a widescreen DVD adapted from the Eric Garcia novel of the same name. The movie stars Nicolas Cage and his close friend Sam Rockwell, and introduces audiences to Alison Lohman. The disc also includes some nice extras, such as Tricks of the Trade: Making Matchstick Men. A glance at early scenes reveals Roy Waller (Cage) as a conman with OCD. He's partnered with Frank ...

Buried Treasure
My wife and I were perusing the aisles of HMV looking for bargains. She was looking in the $3.99 bin while I was checking out the second hand offerings. My wife found "Swept Away" and because of her undying allegiance to Madonna I bit my tongue. She waved a copy of this film and I was intrigued not because of the presence of Kevin Bacon and Colin Firth but why I never heard of it. I was ...

Great movie!
I can't say enough good things about this movie. Kevin Costner is outstanding in this role. It's a great story from beginning to end with a beautiful message. A truly intense believable thriller! I have watched this movie several times and still look forward to seeing it again. Highly recommended!

Echo Bridge Home Entertainment, 2006

Excellent, Excellent, Excellent
Did I say Excellent? This is a really entertaining film. There are a number of long involved reviews of this film so I'll just say that I really enjoyed the film. It's a funny story, that well acted by the leads, but the supporting characters are a riot. This film does not disappoint, very quirky, a lot of fun.

A spiritually uplifting film that should have had a wider release
I never even heard of this film until this month when my Spiritual Cinema Circle subscription featured this film in its November 2005 mail-out. For those who don't know, Spiritual Cinema Circle is a mail distribution service where members get a dvd each month that includes 3 short films and one feature film of spiritually inspiring content. They bring little known films into your home and I ...

Corrections
This is not really a review. Just wanted to point out a few things. If you read in the film description above it says "Toby gets an acting job on a reality TB show." They haven't started making these shows about tuberculosis yet. They're still just making reality TV shows. Plus, they don't mention there are a lot of extras included on this dvd. Here they are: --Director's commentary. --18 ...

Sex and a Girl3 reviews
Angela Gots, Robert Hays

Velocity / Thinkfilm, 2005

A young actress makes this film simply enjoyable
I only saw the second half of the movie, and that should be a statement for itself. The woman name is Angela Gots. She has just made my day. At first I was amused by her beauty, but in a matter of minutes discovered that there's definitely more to her. her subtle facial expressions were truly impressive and the fact that she had no fear is even more.
