The Impressionists12 reviews
Charlie Condou, Amanda Root

Koch Vision, 2006

The Impessionists
The Impressionists Absolutely wonderful movie. Two discs. I love biographies, art, great acting - and it was all in this movie. The actors actually look like the people they portray and the combination of that and their stories, being told by Monet in later life, make this movie come alive. I bought this movie to share with others and to enjoy over and over again.

Jane Eyre151 reviews

Miramax, 2003

Best version
I think this is the best version of the book. It's "English" tone and the feeling of the era, the clear dialogue, are all there.

The Forsyte Saga, Series 166 reviews
Damian Lewis, Rupert Graves

Acorn Media, 2002

Beautiful!
A beautifully filmed history piece re the Forsythe's. Drama, romance, tragedy all carefully weaved into the lives of those directly involved in the family, as well as innocent bystanders. For Damian Lewis and Ioann Gufford fans, definitely add to your collection. One becomes so involved in the story, you really believe you know them. And as for Damian Lewis as Soames, you love him, hate him and ...

The Forsyte Saga, Series 2
I found the whole series, series one and series two to be wonderful, my teenage daughter and I sat for many hours together watching them, I was amazed with how much she couldn't wait to watch the next episode, The only dissapointment was when there was no more to watch

The Catherine Cookson Collection - Set 2 (The Dwelling Place / The Gambling Man / The Glass Virgin / The Man ...5 reviews
Ciarán Hinds, Kate Buffery

Acorn Media, 2006

Set 2 is a great set with great films
I've seen all the movies in this set except for the man who cried, I haven't gotten to watch that one yet. I started watching Catherine Cookson films as a teenager because my grandma watched them all the time. I fell in love with them. As depressing as her films can be (it seems there is always a tragedy in her films) the ending is always good. In this set the Gambling Man is my favorite, I ...

Roald Dahl's The BFG (Big Friendly Giant)14 reviews
David Jason, Amanda Root

A&E Home Video, 2006

Almost as Good as the Book! (Sam & his Dad)
True to the book, good animation, one of the great adaptations. We had to pay $$ to get this, it is never shown on TV nor is it available any longer in the USA. Don't buy a British one, it won't play on an American video recorder. The sound is a little muffled on our copy... You should DEFINITELY read Matilda and rent that video too!

Daniel Deronda60 reviews
Hugh Dancy, Romola Garai

BBC Warner, 2007

A beautifully filmed period piece that interlaces romance with a man's search for purpose and identity
Daniel Deronda the series is based on George Eliot's novel of the same name . The main character Daniel Deronda[Hugh Dancy], is a young man of unknown parentage who is the adopted son of a wealthy man, Sir Hugo, and has all the trappings of wealth, yet yearns for a 'real' purpose and searches for his identity. When the story begins, we are shown a scene where a beautiful woman [Romola Garai] is ...

A fine mixture of young and experienced actors, and the story of the Roman Empire is always interesting. Great landscapes.

Anna Karenina (2000)15 reviews
Helen McCrory, Kevin McKidd

WGBH BOSTON, 2004

Masterpiece Theater has done it again
This is an excellent adaptation of Anna Karenina. Brilliantly casted, with Helen McCrory as Anna and Kevin McKidd as Vronsky. McKidd has a sort of Russian look about him, though I can't exactly describe it. McCrory's animated deep-set eyes look more and more tired and hopeless by the end of the movie. A near perfect Anna in all her moods and actions. And her laugh is the kind that sticks in your ...

Love on Branch Line
One of the gentle but great British comedies. Great casting of theater trained actors who make this a really enjoyable & hilarious romp. Extremely watchable time & time again.

P.D. James - Original Sin3 reviews
Roy Marsden, Ian Bannen

Lance Entertainment, 2003

Revisiting Original Sin
Normally, I should not think it necessary to revisit "Original Sin." However, given the less than adequate sound engineering and the soft tones and trailing voice of Roy Marsden, it takes two or three hearing before one can clearly identify all of the dialogue. English subtitles for the non-Brits in the audience would make for a wonderful enhancement to this production. P.D. James writes with ...

Jane Eyre (A&E, 1997) [Region 2]190 reviews
Anna Paquin, Nic Knight

best love story so far
This movie and cast was well chosen. Mr Rochester (Hinds) Is a not too handsome of a man ( but I think so), that is a stern and rugged hell of a man. When Jane comes, she is soft and not aware of what a man really is. The two give "performances of a lifetime". I would have to die first before I would let this movie go. Shows what love is supposed to be. "Inner love".
