Moon Over Miami26 reviews
Don Ameche, Betty Grable

20th Century Fox, 2006

fine Hollywood musical with words and music
Moon Over Miami is a delightful musical romp that succeeds very well even though the plot is rather thin. The convincing acting held my attention very well and the musical numbers are excellent. The Technicolor is grand and the plot moves along at a good pace. The action starts when Kay Latimer (Betty Grable), her sister Barbara (Carol Landis), and their aunt Susan (Charlotte Greenwood) are ...

fine, classic movie musical with scenery and entertainment
Down Argentine Way is a delightful, light fare type of early 1940s movie musical that should charm just about anyone who loves this type of motion picture. We get fine performances from great stars including Betty Grable, Don Ameche, Carmen Miranda and the incredible dancing Nicholas Brothers! The plot moves along at a good pace and the acting was quite convincing. The action starts when horse ...

Pin-Up Girl18 reviews
Betty Grable, John Harvey

20th Century Fox, 2006

"We should have used our imaginations"
Skewering her real life role of a pin up girl, this 1944 movie stars Betty Grable as Lorry Jones a pretty and feisty young girl who works for the USO and is heading for Washington DC. Aboard the train, a conversation with friend Kay (Dorothea Kent) reveals that the pair isn't headed for the USO, but will instead take jobs as stenographers. On the way, the pair decides to visit New York, where ...

Follow the Fleet31 reviews
Fred Astaire, Ginger Rogers

Turner Home Ent, 2005

fine and somewhat underrated Fred and Ginger musical
Follow The Fleet is a solid RKO musical from 1936 that gives us Fred Astaire as Bake Baker, navy seaman and Ginger Rogers as Sherry Martin dancing at their best, even if the plot is rather thin. Look also for a great performance by Randolph Scott as Bilge Smith, Bake's buddy in the navy; and Harriet Hilliard plays Connie Martin, Sherry's sister. The plot and the action move along at a good pace; ...

Marilyn Monroe - The Diamond Collection (Bus Stop / How to Marry a Millionaire / There's No Business Like ...40 reviews
Marilyn Monroe, Tom Ewell

20th Century Fox, 2001

She really was "A Candle in the Wind"
This collection of films is a must-have for fans of Marilyn Monroe. The tragic ending to her life is forgotten while the watcher is mesmerized by her overwhelming stage presence that outshines everyone else on the screen. Her characters always portray an innocence that shines through her sexual magnetism. What never comes through in her performances is her own troubled life. In Bus Stop, she has ...

The Gay Divorcee28 reviews
Fred Astaire, Ginger Rogers

Turner Home Ent, 2006

The Film That Started It All, More or Less
"The Gay Divorcee," (1934) was the first RKO studio pairing of Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers as stars, after they unexpectedly stole the previous year's "Flying Down to Rio." It received five Academy Award nominations: one for Best Picture, and won one, the first ever awarded in that category, for best original song,"The Continental." It set the look and sound of the Astaire-Rogers pictures for ...

How To Marry A Millionaire59 reviews
Marilyn Monroe, Betty Grable

20th Century Fox, 2001

Hilarious
These women will go to great lengths to land a rich husband, even if that means selling all they have, living on hot dogs, and going to high society parties to stake out the millionaires. The performances from all three of these actresses are amazing! You can't help but laugh at the silly things they say and do. I am a HUGE Marilyn Monroe fan, and it is one of my favorite movies with her in it, ...

20th Century Fox, 2006

I Wake Up Screaming
One of the first Hollywood whodunits to build an atmosphere of torment and menace around its two protagonists, Humberstone's enthralling psychological thriller opens with two police interrogations that quickly establish character, motives, and the events leading up to the murder via flashback. Mature and Grable give complex performances as a pair thrown together by circumstance and drawn into a ...

Four Jills in a Jeep6 reviews
Kay Francis, Carole Landis

20th Century Fox, 2008

5 Stars for 4 Jills!
I saw this movie on tv the other day and absolutely loved it. They were playing it for Memorial Day. The singing is wonderful, the actresses are lovely, and the whole thing was just well done. Martha Raye is hilarious! I wish they'd put this out on DVD...I'd buy it immediately. A great memorial to the USO and the girls who went to entertain the soldiers.

Sweet Rosie O'Grady2 reviews
Betty Grable, Robert Young

One of Betty's Favorites
Betty Grable once said that this was one of her two favorite musicals to make. (The other was Mother Wore Tights (1947), which also deserves to be released on DVD). Sweet Rosie O'Grady has a sweet story, lovely costumes, glamorous Technicolor and beautiful songs. Add to that, excellent support from Robert (Father Knows Best) Young, Adolphe Menjou, Reginald Gardiner, and Virginia Grey. But the ...

Pigskin Parade 1936
Song , dance and Romance hit the field in this musical comedy that is sure to bring cheers for it's winning team of Hollywood all-stars , including Jack Halley ( 1898-1979), Betty Grable (1916-1973) and Fresh-faced Judy Garland (1922-1969) years before she wandered down the yellow brick road of Oz ( Wizard of Oz 1939) . The Ultimate Bob Hope Collection4 reviews
Janis Paige, Dorothy Lamour

R2 Entertainment, 2002

Bob's Best
This is a great collection of 3 DVDs that covers Bob's television career from 1950 through his final special in 1995. The guest list is a virtual "who's who" of all the big television and movie stars of the period, and given the five decades it covers it really becomes a virtual history of television. Bob is terrific, and the quality of the remastering and packaging is top notch. Made a great ...

Song of the Islands7 reviews
Betty Grable, Victor Mature

The Pin-Up Girl and the Pineapple Guy say Aloha
Betty Grable is all peaches and cream and spectacular curves as she hulas her way to Hawaii. Song of the Islands also stars one of her favorite leading men, Victor Mature, one of her favorite supporting stars, Jack Oakie, and one of her favorite directors, Walter Lang. Put them all together in glorious Technicolor with plenty of songs, dances and comedy for one of Betty's biggest box office ...

Rootin',tootin' Grable legs it in Western farce
First time around this Preston Sturges (writer, producer, director)movie was given the thumbs down by most of the critics. However, today it is hailed as classic comedy, with a classy leading lady - Betty Grable! She the cutest li'l ole gunslinging saloon girl who shoots a judge (where it don't show) and legs it with her pal, Olga San Juan, to the next town along the line where she poses as a ...
