Could it be better?
The only qualification that I could imagine someone making about this miraculous performance is that it takes place in a very small theater on a very small stage. But the singers are all fantastic--just to hear Florez sing Fenton's Act III aria is worth the price of admission. The women are simply delightful, Falstaff rich and characterful; only Ford is a bit mild and reserved. The sets are ...

Molto Bene!
Donizetti created this masterpiece knowing that it required an outstnding cast, and here indeed it has just that. Having grown up with my ears seduced by the velvet of Tito Schipa I expected Flores might be a come down--- I should have know better! This is not just a "tenore de grazia" buy indeed a super-tenor. But all the other voices are equally apt, and the staging is splendid. And the music! ...

Dessay and Florez in La Fille du Regiment
Miss Dessay and Mr. Florez are magnificent in this production. The singing by both and the rest of the cast is excellent and the acting, especially Miss Dessay, is outstanding. This is a DVD I will enjoy for ever. Naty Fowler

If you buy only one "Barber of Seville"...this is the one!
Teatro Real of Madrid has done it again. Any of you who are fond of gorgeously staged productions, surely have noticed how high the bar has been set by Madrid. The Gran Teatre Del Liceu is another one you can put real faith in. I am becoming fond of comparing productions, buying one then another. This one trumps all the others I have seen. I recall Il Viaggio A Reims and the stunning array of ...

Decca, 2006

An outstanding and interesting performance of this comique opera
This is an outstanding performance of the "Daughter of the Regiment", a comedy-opera by Donizetti. Juan Diego Florez excels in his performance of Tonio, introducing his own interpretation of the role. In addition Patrizia Ciofi excels in using her voice and stage play. All in all this is an excellent performance. The conversion of the story to more modern times of WWII introduces a bit of ...
