The Rockford Files - Season Three38 reviews
James Garner, James Luisi

Universal Studios, 2007

The best show of it's time
The year was 1974 and Rockford hit the small screen on NBC at 9pm on Fridays. From day one I was hooked. I never ever missed an episode. I also often watched the reruns on the "midnight double feature" on ABC.I have a great love for the program. I met James Garner at an airport in New York in 1990. I was working the security check point and he just walked through like it was no big deal. I was ...

The Rockford Files: Season Six4 reviews
James Garner, Noah Beery Jr.

Universal Studios, 2009

A Good Friend Says Goodbye
If ever a star had that certain something which put him in the same category as those shining ones from the 1930's and 1940's, it was James Garner. He had a fine film career, to be sure, but it was his laconic charm as Jim Rockford on television with which he will always be most identified. He was an ex-con given a full pardon when it was discovered he was innocent after all. Working as a P.I. ...

Seven Faces of Dr. Lao75 reviews
Tony Randall, Barbara Eden

Warner Home Video, 2000

DR. LAO TRICKS YOU INTO REALIZING YOURSELVES
Tony Randall carries the movie of course. This is a vehicle for him to display many sides of his talent: with seven different characters to go about that is quite a load to carry plus some linguistic fluency in various accent. The ingenious direction of George Pal is also to be lauded. The scene where the termegan wife was looking at the newspaper and didn't know who Medusa was and the henpeck ...

Walking Tall46 reviews
Joe Don Baker, Elizabeth Hartman

Paramount, 2007

Walking Tall is a must see!!
"Walking Tall" (the orignal version), starring Joe Don Baker, is one of those movies you watch over & over again! This one has it all. Based on a true person; hard to believe something like this can really happen! This will bring out every emotion ya got! All the actors were indeed perfect for their roles, (which doesn't happen too often!) This movie will keep you glued to the tube from the ...

Red River80 reviews
John Wayne, Montgomery Clift

MGM (Video & DVD), 1997

Any Who Says John Wayne Couldn't Act Is An Idiot
An epic masterpiece filled with some of the greatest character actors of all time..Like Charlton Heston, John Wayne was cheated out of many honors because of his poltics... Any who sees The Quiet Man, True Grit,Sands of Iwo Jima, She Wore A Yellow Ribbon, The Long Voyage Home, The Shootest and naturally The Searchers must recognize that the Duke was much more than a movie star but a fantastic ...

Of Mice and Men23 reviews
Lon Chaney Jr., Burgess Meredith

Image Entertainment, 1998

THE BEST "Novel adaption" film I have ever seen!
I have watched over 600 classic films in my study and enjoyment of classic film. I have watched many films made from a novel--Anna Karenina, A Tree Grows in Brooklyn, A Farewell to Arms, etc. It seems there is always something missing in movies adapted from a novel...a film cannot always grasp the depth and "mind thoughts" of a book, for a book is more for the mind and the reader's own inner ...

Inherit the Wind107 reviews
Spencer Tracy, Fredric March

United Artists, 2001

A Black and White Movie For a Technicolor World
This is the second in my "series" of films for which I am truly thankful, the problem with that being that it is the first one that most of you will be reading. Such is life. In my first review, which was actually more of a thumbnail appreciation of the original production of THE THING (a film that literally shaped the rest of my life), I mentioned that there was another film that had taught me ...

Sergeant York (Two-Disc Special Edition)124 reviews
Gary Cooper, Walter Brennan

Warner Home Video, 2006

OSP 10
This is without a doubt one of the top five movies of all time. The acting is superb and the movie keeps you interested through out. Gary Cooper is brilliant, but the actress who plays Mother York, Margaret Wycherly, steals the show. I have seen this movie several times in my lifetime and I become deeply engrossed everytime I watch it. This is one of the best bargains ($10.99) you will ever ...

Louis L'Amour: Hondo and the Apaches/The Man Called Noon9 reviews
Ralph Taeger, Kathie Browne

Vintage Home Ent., 2004

A Man Called Noon
This film has an error in the fight scene at the ranch. The film stops & then returns to the start: MOST ANNOYING. Otherwise 4 stars

White Feather9 reviews
Robert Wagner, John Lund

20th Century Fox, 2007

1877 HOLLYWOOD STYLE
This movie is excellent entertainment for its time and also for today, however, it is not excellent history. But what the movie attemps to show deserves some sympathetic historical consideration. Robert Wagner mentions the date 1877 at movie's beginning, only a few months after the Custer fight of June, 1876, at the Little Big Horn. After that fight, the Lakota as well as Northern Cheyenne ...

John Wayne, George Gabby Hayes

Mill Creek Entertainment, 2007

John Wayne - Hero Movie Pack
Brought this movie pack and the other John Wayne Legend Movie Pack for my elder aunts and uncle and my mother....they just enjoy watching John Wayne in his westerns and they hadn't seen these in a long time...In this movie pack, nine of the movies are in B&W, almost an hour long each, and from the 1930's and the 10th movie (Angel and the badman) is in b&w, from the 1940's, and almost 2 hours ...

Escort West7 reviews
Victor Mature, Elaine Stewart

MGM (Video & DVD), 2005

Great Victor Mature Western
Victor Mature was a natural to make Westerns. He had the requisite rough edges, but always managed to imbue his characters with style, grace, and as odd as it could be for frontier living, sophistication. Escort West follows Mature as he plays a former Confederate captain headed to Nevada after the war. With his daughter in two, Mature lands in the middle of rampaging Modoc Indians who have ...

War Arrow6 reviews
Maureen O'Hara, Jeff Chandler

Universal Studios, 2004

PURE ENTERTAINMENT--NO MESSAGE AT ALL. ENJOY.
If you grew up in the 1950s as I did you will know that a movie such as WAR ARROW was made strickly for entertainment and garnering money for the studio. Don't look for a message, and that trite phrase "political correctness" did not exist back then. This is a low budget movie with several stars of box office draw showing the "west" as Hollywood saw it. Yes, it is western history according to ...

Only Angels Have Wings26 reviews
Cary Grant, Jean Arthur

Sony Pictures, 1999

Believe Me This Angel Has Wings!
Cary Grant, Jean Arthur, Rita Hayworth and such go town to South America where airplane pilots working for the banana industry fly in some pretty dangerous places. A lot of drama and excitement. Who will Cary end up with? Is Jean pregnant - Hollywood style? What is wrong with Rita's new husband? Why doesn't anybody like him, no matter what he does and what did he do to make them hate him? ...

Rocketship X-M30 reviews
Lloyd Bridges, Osa Massen

Image Entertainment, 2000

Watch out for that meteor shower...
What an absolutely great way to spend an evening. These older Sci-Fi movies are gems. Sure...they can't touch todays computer generated spectaculars...but they are great just the same. Those guys did a great job with what they had to work with. Spend an evening watching this movie and some of Ray Harryhausen's work...then you'll realize just where the "Force" came from!
