Hollywoodland
I just watched "Sunset Boulevard" for the first time. I absolutley loved it. I usually stay away from "black and white" movies, considering they are not from my generation. The only other old movies I've seen are "To Kill A Mockingbird", and parts of "It's a Wonderful Life". This one interested me because I work in the entertainment industry and I like movies about Hollywood. "Sunset ...

As Time Goes By . . .
. . . This film simply gets better and better. How can it miss with such a cast? Not only Humphrey Bogart as Rick and Ingrid Bergman as Ilse, but also the ensemble group of minor characters. Who can forget oily-voiced Peter Lorre smuggling the letters of transit? Or rotund Sidney Greenstreet swatting flies at the Blue Parrot? My very favorite, however, is Claude Raines as Louis, the (lovably) ...

An Unlikely Masterpiece
I find it amazing this movie was ever made. A three-and-a-half hour epic about a strange, masochistic, messianic, probably gay, possibly mentally disturbed British military officer having an identity crisis while going native & riding a camel back and forth in the desert in the wrong theater of a major war. I wonder how David Lean pitched this thing to Columbia Studios in the first place. ...

Gone with the Wind (Four-Disc Collector's Edition) 1939 Excellent movie, excellent price. I got it for free shipping, but it took almost two weeks to get to me. I think it is worth the extra few bucks to get stuff sooner.

The best film ever?
It's the best I've ever seen. Why? Because it enters a world of psychology in a unique and powerful way. It exposes the selfish tyrant that lies in all of us. Do we not all do what we do for "I?" What drives us to be what we become? What is our most basic need, our most primal desire? This film deals with these things in a visceral experience of entertainment. This film had to be quite ...

One of the Ten Greatest Films ever!
I am not going to try to reiterate all of the laudatory reviews from other customers. But I will restate the claims of many who regard SITR as one of the ten best films ever made. Without a doubt it is, and that includes all types of films. Yes, the very theme of the film is a little "corny." but so was the era it portrays - when movies were "king" and the industry was in a tremendous state of ...

CLASSIC FILM WITH A NICE NEW DVD UPGRADE!
I bought the new collector's edition of 'Some Like It Hot' a few months ago and I am just getting around to watching it. The film is a classic with Lemmon, Curtis and Monroe in top form with help from a great cast of character actors. This Billy Wilder film has held up really well and now it's got a worthy release. The new 2 disc edition sports a ton of extras and a fantastic print and transfer!

"I could do some of the things I've always wanted to."
Princess Ann (Audrey Hepburn) is tired of the royal life. She is required to behave in such a silly way and she has no time to enjoy herself. She visits city after city without any real change of scenery and she's tired of it. No one in her employ will help her achieve any excitement, so she takes matters into her own hands and escapes. Reporter Joe Bradley (Gregory Peck) finds her, and ...

the stuff that dreams are made of!
This movie is inimitable. Terse, convoluted, gritty, and satirical. The scenes of this movie pack a visceral punch rarely matched in classic Hollywood movies. The plot is confusing, if not incomprehensible at times. However, the basics are pretty straightforward. Sam Spade is a private eye working in San Fransisco with his partner. One afternoon a beautiful, malevolent women walks into ...

A Richly Deserved Reputation
This is truly one of the American cinema's greatest films. A splendid cast, anchored by the breathtaking performance of Marlon Brando as Terry Malloy, gives it their passionate best with results that deserve accolades all around. A word about the political context of the film, which is often not known by younger generations of viewers - Elia Kazan, who directed and wrote the original story, ...

Stunning
I continue to be impressed by young Brando. I grew up hearing how much an acting genius Brando was in his hey day and I thought for the most part he was over-rated. Course, I was coming from the angle of the older Brando. Now after watching On the Waterfront and now Streetcar, I've been more than blown away. Brando absolutely deserves his accolades. In streetcar, he plays Stanley to the tee. ...

Life altering film
I'm embarrassed to say that "Treasure of Sierra Madre" changed my life. I saw it as a child and was enchanted by three American ex-pats kicking around in Mexico and searching for Mexican treasure. By the age of 21 I was spending every other weekend in Baja and Sonora and did so for years. Since then, I've spent a lot more time there, bought a home in Jalisco and am, even now, living directly ...

One of the greatest films of all time, and one of Nicholson's best too
This is a film you absolutely need to see at least twice. The first time through you'll be gasping for air, trying to keep up with the twists and turns in the plot. The second time through, you can sit back, relax, and enjoy the ride. Those willing to view it again and again will find more and more to love in this amazingly dense but satisfying film.
