The Russian Front: The Road to Stalingrad 2 reviews Professor John Erickson

Battle for Stalingrad The DVD was informative. Yet it did not provide the type of information I required. A better DVD is the World at War series.

Scorched Earth Series 3: Combat on the Russian Front 4 reviews
Eagle Rock Productions, 2008
A colossal struggle to the death The film includes the opinions of experts like Robin Clifton, Bob Carruthers and John Erickson but also dramatic footage from actual battles on the Eastern Front, pictures of the horrific carnage produced and many color war-time posters. It gives special emphasis to the gruesome fate of the millions prisoners caught from both sides and the barbarity of the struggle which from the start had a ...

The Front Page 11 reviews Jack Lemmon, Walter Matthau
Universal Studios, 1998
Great Entertainment! In my opinion the best of the Lemmon/Matthau movies. It's everything a screwball-comedy should be: fast, funny, cynical. The cast is perfect and Wilder's direction brilliant. I liked "His Girl Friday" but "The Front Page" is even better.

The Front Page 1 review
Miracle Pictures, 2005
BEWARE: AVOID MIRACLE PICTURES VERSION AT ALL COST!!!!!! DON'T BUY THE MIRACLE PICTURES VERSION OF 'THE FRONT PAGE.' It's unwatchable. Even at $.01 (from an amazon seller) plus postage, it's a rip-off. Picture jumps; sound is atrocious! Dialogue? Forget it. P.T. Barnum is (erroneously) credited with saying "There's a sucker born every minute" and I guess I'm one of them. Beware!

The Home Front 13 reviews Tatum O'Neal, Julian Sands
First Look Pictures, 2004
An Unusual War Story I found this to be a very compelling movie. There are so many issues that come up that it should provide good family discussion for quite a while. First, the priest is not respected by the village people because he is an alcoholic. The mother of the two teens was involved is a sin for which the townspeople have ostracized her and her kids for years. A gypsy escapes for Germany early in the ...

Catch the Men 5 reviews Front 242
Metropolis Records, 2005
you modern angels A total sensory experience, this drags your inner dancer out of the closet and gives its tired bones new energy and life. Feel the rhythm and give yourself to the experience that has been culled from ages ago. This is mysticism through modern music. Some call it magic; a potent re-arranging of your nervous system that leaves you brimming with life.
Art is powerful indeed; so go ahead and ...

Home Front 2 reviews Jeremy Feldbusch, Charlene Feldbusch
Cinevolve Studios, 2008
A quiet tour de force that is a MUST SEE! This is an extremely well-made film that shines a light on something that we often chose to ignore -- the aftermath of war. It doesn't shout, like Michael Moore, or preach. Rather it provides an incredibly intimate portrait of an American family adjusting to life after their son, an Army Ranger, returns from Iraq severely wounded. Yes, parts are difficult to watch and sad. But it's also ...

Molly - An American Girl on the Home Front 29 reviews Alex Steele, Josette Halpert
Warner Home Video, 2006
Fun, educational and touching This movie was great for our family. It gives children a little sense of the emotions young kids might feel as their families are affected by war. Molly has a selfish attitude at first, but learns to do her part to help in the war effort. I really enjoyed it.

All Quiet on the Western Front (Universal Cinema Classics) 115 reviews Louis Wolheim, Lew Ayres
Universal Studios, 2007
An Historical Icon This is a 1930 film production, faithfully based on Eric Marie Remarque's WWI novel by the same title. Considering the infancy of talkie film making when this was created, it is an absolutely remarkable piece. Many of the battle scene techniques have been recycled to this day.
I read the novel 3 or 4 years ago, and had forgotten that it was told from the German viewpoint (such is the ...

All Quiet on the Western Front 47 reviews Richard Thomas, Ernest Borgnine
Lions Gate, 2002
all quiet on the western front i believe this remake of the black and white film of the 1930's is the superior of the two. The Richard Thomas version is less preachy than the Lew Ayers version. Also, the ending is not "telegraphed" to the viewer as was done in the black and white film. In the Richard Thomas film the end is sudden, a shot from nowhere! I believe thiss adds considerable dramatic impact to the main theme of this ...

The Front Page (1931) 8 reviews Adolphe Menjou, Pat O'Brien
Synergy Ent, 2007
A FAST AND FURIOUS 1931 NEWSPAPER YARN. A Chicago reporter wants to retire and marry, but is tricked by his scheming editor into covering one last case. Based on the famous 1928 play by Charles MacArthur and Ben Hecht, this gem isn't exactly the jewel HIS GIRL FRIDAY is - but it's definitely worth a look. Better than you'd think! It's a virile, dizzy-plotted drama which is considered by many to be the epitome of newspaper reporter ...

Walt Disney Treasures - On the Front Lines 55 reviews Clarence Nash, Billy Bletcher
Walt Disney Video, 2004
This is what the Disney Treasures Collection was made for! In the early 1940s, when the United States joined a second World War against the forces of evil, it was important that all Americans did their part. Walt Disney was no exception, and he and his artists took on the task fearlessly! This significant entry into the Walt Disney Treasures Collection limited-edition DVD line compiles the Disney Studios' war-themed animated shorts from that era along ...

The Eastern Front 1941-1945 3 reviews Eastern Front 1941-1945
Columbia River Ent., 2007
You should watch the footage The footage is astonishing. I watched a lot documentaries before. About 30-40% of this one was unknown to me, something new. The episodes with the tank's top shoot out clean from the tank's body got stuck in my mind. My uncle was a T-34 tank driver at WW2. He got through such incidents twice, losing the rest of crue comrades.
About commentary: are you watching this for a commentary? Trying to ...

The Front 28 reviews Woody Allen, Zero Mostel
Sony Pictures, 2004
a chilling black comedy...... THE FRONT, starring Woody Allen, Michael Murphy and Zero Mostel, is an engaging, brilliant, well-written piece that examines the plight of Blacklisted writers and other creative artists who were stifled and forbidden during the age of McCarthyism and the Witch Hunt. Many in their industry were forced and strongarmed to "name names" of people with supposed Communism and anti-American behavior ...
