Excellent book for beginning or advanced weight training

I bought 'Strength Training Anatomy' because I am studying anatomy as part of a massage therapy course and because I wanted to improve my weight training routine. This book brings anatomy to the weight room by showing all the muscles in the illustration of a particular exercise pose and highlighting those that are most highly contracted. It illustrates both free weight and machine exercises, showing you how to get the greatest advantage by simple shifts in position or motion.

For example, with large muscles like pectoralis major, you can vary the bench press by shifting hand placement or back placement against the bench to work different aspects of the muscle. It also relates one exercise to another, such as back lat pull-downs, which help build strength in the back in order to due chin-ups more effectively.

There are 115 total exercise illustrations divided into chapters on arms, shoulders, chest, back, legs, buttocks, and abdomen. The book also points out typical weight lifting injuries and how to prevent them.

It is the best overall weight training book I have seen. Fine illustrations, precise instructions, and appealing design. Well worth the price for someone just beginning strength training or the experienced weight lifter who wants to know more about the anatomical aspects.

Great book about human body

Excellent book about human body and bodybuilding exercise.
In every exercise movement you are able to see what muscles are involved.

Great information!

I have to say I was most impressed with this book and was exactly what I was looking for. It shows *exactly* what muscles are worked with each different exercise- which is a great help for muscle isolation.

Over the years I have tried working out, but really had no clue how to properly perform the exercises or exactly what muscle was being worked. This book definitely tells you how to properly do the exercise, what muscles are being worked, and even alternative ways of doing the same exercise.

Definitely worth the price!

Great, but my sister thinks it's too graphic

Good book, great illustrations of muscles worked. My mid 40's sister doesn't think the illustrations are proper when they drew the women lifters. Skimpy outfits and curves but hey, it's a book about building your body and the underlying structures.


Great Book, but 3rd Edition could be even better

I was recommended this book by an acquaintance on the Bodybuilding.com. After using the book, for my own personal workouts it has helped me to know how the exercises are to be done correctly with the smallest chance for injury. This is a great book and worth the money. The artwork on the various muscle groups and associated exercises is very detailed and colorful. However I would suggest additions to the book if there were a 3rd edition:
- Having an index section for finding certain exercises or prominently mentioned muscle groups on certain pages throughout the book.
- Mention that the barbell triceps extension exercise is aka the skullcrusher.
- Have included a poster size version of the muscular skeleton. I know the book cover already has the pictures, but I'd prefer something I could hang on the wall.
- If possible, the book in an electronic format like a PDF file on CD.
These are just some of my personal suggestions. If you want to buy the book, please go right ahead. It is simple, detailed, and informative.
