What brings this game down are all the bugs in the game. The game crashes and is unstable so you better make sure that you save often. There are many places in the game where the framerate, or motion of the charcters, slows down so much that everything looks one half the speed of normal. In other parts of the game, Laura is constantly passing through solid objects and walls. The cut scenes in the beginning are choppy and sound cuts off abruptly between takes. During loading, sometimes you see artwork in the background and sometimes you don't. All this points to a game that was released too soon before it was completed. The producers of this game seem to have developed the game without understanding the idea of what makes a Tomb Raider game a Tomb Raider game. The game has puzzles and such, just like the original, but the puzzles seem to be placed in the game just for the sake of putting them there for the gamer to have something to do while playing. There is usually no connection between the puzzles and the story line. Just lots of busy work. With all that said, I still will give it a three star rating with a warning...don't pay full retail for it. If you are a TR fan and just want to see the latest generation for a Tomb Raider game, I think it will be worth the price as long as you can get it very cheap. On the positive side, it was fun playing in this new 3D mode with the excellent graphics...most of the time. Do you remember the four sided trees/bushes in the original TR that looked like cardboard cutouts? Believe it or not, you will find them in this game! This is really poor production value. This is a PS2 game, right? How could the producers get so lazy in doing something like this? I don't know about you, but EIDOS better get new producers that understand the game better and have higher standards. If any sequels are done, you won't find people banging EIDOS's door down to buy them if this sort of loose programming and direction is continued. My two cents. Btw, I didn't pay retail.
