Rather than a simple diary, this description of life in Berlin in the first weeks after the Russian Army occupied the city, is well-written and moving. There is some speculation as to its authenticity, in that it seems a little too "planned" and emotionless for a spontaneous account. However, it is well worth reading for an understanding of how many German women survived in the terrifying aftermath of Germany's defeat and life in a battered occupied city.

Amazingly humane and moving

It's almost a shame that the author is anonymous. Her writing is incredible. I have researched rape in conflict for the past three years and her insight and bravery and humor has helped challenge me. She truly is a survivor. I highly recommend this book. Far from being as depressing as you might think it is, it is an important book to read to understand what it means to be human and caught in the middle of a war.

Things about which nobody has discussed or dared to describe.
The "Victors" always prevall. Wonderful.
