It works!
This made more sense to me than
anything
I had ever read about food and
diet
ing. I have lost 24 pounds in the last 8 weeks--effortlessly.
Worthwhile to those that are serious about losing weight
I do not give this book five stars for one reason, for many people it does not provide enough detailed information, and evidence of this shows even on comments here such as "It did have an appetite supressing effect but I still didn't lose any
weight
."
While trying to emphasize that the
diet
is not based on restricting foods in general or a certain type of food (i.e Atkins, South Beach), the author perhaps gives the false notion through the tag line of "
eat
anything
" that people with lousy diets can continue to do so, and that this formula like magic will help them lose weight. He does actually tell you this (if you READ the book and not just skim to the "magic formula" as I believe many do), but apparently some do not take this to heart.
Perhaps rather than a "Diet Book" this would best be described as a "Diet Assistance Book" (he goes into examples such as a lady that was using Weight Watchers in conjunction with The
Shangri-la
Diet, and had better results than her friend).
If you want to sit around and eat pint of ice cream every night, the "formula" set out here will not "melt away the pounds." But if you are seriously ready to lose weight, and
plan
on starting to eat correctly The Shangri-La diet will make it (based on my 6 weeks and 13 lb weight
loss
at this point) as painless as it can get. Do I still at times WANT that bad food? Sure but that is my head and not my stomach talking. And since I don't always "feel" hungry, I can tell the difference.

It is working for me
I loved this book! It is in no way another
Weight
loss book
. It grabbed me at the book store. A fascinating read. I love this authors search for the answer to weight loss. He is a true scientist.
I was totally skeptical about the method. But it really works!!!!!!!!!!!! I was able to pass on junk food binging easily. I found myself naturally looking for low calorie healthier foods. This has been unheard of for me.
I am buying this book for my niece and my sister with my money.
I dont think drinking sugar water or gulping down straight olive oil is as safe as the author believes. But on the whole if it stops me from
eating junk
that is 100 times worst, I come out way ahead.
I will eagerly buy
anything else
this author writes.
I am shocked that someone would review this book without reading it or trying the method.

Shangri-La Diet Great! Great! Great!
Gr
eatest secret
out there. A great little book. Quick read and contains priceless information. This book offers an easy, inexpensive & most of all healthy way to lose
weight
without the pangs of
hunger
or the cravings that seem to control us. Food no longer has a hold and the book explains so clearly how and why that happens. I like that there is a science behind it and I like that the author, Seth Roberts, spent many years trying to lose weight himself. He used himself to test his new theories and has developed a very sensible means of supressing appetite and eliminating cravings. At the risk of sounding like a cheesy testimonial I will say that I have never in my life felt this way about food and about weight
loss
. I know it sounds crazy but it's not. I had no idea what being "not-hungry" felt like. It's the most sensible thing I've every read and am now practicing. I chose to take the extra light olive oil twice daily and I'm having great success with weight loss. I'm even seeing other, unexpected benefits. I would encourage anyone who needs to have better control of their eating habits and food choices to read this book. It will change your life in a very healthy way.

Amazing!
I discovered this
diet
on a blog. I read about it online, not finding any real negatives (google groups/usenet, is a gr
eat place
for finding negatives), so I bought the book and have been on the diet 2 1/2 months.
I'm 63, have bad knees, and cannot exercise anymore, so I figured I'd try this diet. Dr. Roberts talks about "Ice age" metabolism and since my wife and I had reached a similar conclusion, a while ago, I figured this man was on to something.
The results:
1. I've lost 3" on my belts. Gone from 48 pants to be able to (still tight) wear 44.
2. It's changed my appetite/sense of food. I just don't eat as much anymore. But I'm just as satisfied and eat
anything
I ate before. It just takes less to fill me up. I never though it would affect my "psychological need" but it has.
I'm using the 2-3 tablespoons of Canola oil every day.
