A wonderful beginning to what has become a wonderful journey

As a sophmore in college first contemplating a serious pursuit of godliness in my life I read this book in a small prayer garden on campus each morning. From those quiet moments sprang a desire to be all that God wanted which has persevered to this day. A good place for anyone to start!

An Incredible, Penetrating, Beautiful Spritual Rendering

I'm not even Christian. I happen to be Jewish by background, and I think this is one of the deepest, most profound and most beautiful things I have ever read. I just stumbled across it at a bookstore, and ended up carrying it around with me for a long time. When I first read it, I felt heat coursing through me. The cover jacket says "After the bible, this is the touchstone and probably the best-loved book of Christianity." No Christians I asked, however, had ever heard of it, oddly enough. In any case, I believe everyone, Christians and non-Christians alike, would benefit tremendously from reading and contemplating this work.

Note: I have the Penguin Classics edition which is translated by Leo Sherley-Price.

Truly the Best Translation

This translation, by Dr. Joseph Tylenda, S.J.,Director of the Theology Center At Georgetown University, is truly the finest I've seen. If you are a reader of Classic Works this translation is a must. If you are not, it will truly inspire you. The scriptures are cleverly placed in italics with complete Bible references. A very well written history is also provided. The beautiful cover makes this an ideal gift at holidays and special occasions. This is one of the world's most famous devotionals, truly a great Christian work. When you have the time take a look for yourself.

'ONE OF THE BEST BOOKS ON EARTH'

How does one describe a book like this? Beside it, other works are like candles beside the glow of the moon. Reading a passage a day will assuredly change your life. The contents of this book contain principles, ideas, and views so great that if every one on earth were to read it, the world would be a different place indeed. When people study the 'Imitation,' they become in tune with what is really important in life - our mortal lives are temporary. Everything we do, every word we say, every motive behind our acts, should be geared toward our lives after death. While the 'Imitation' may seem too ascetic for modern readers, it must be remembered that Thomas Kempis first wrote this book for monks. Nevertheless, each word is music; every passage is a profound truth, and a daily reading of this great tome will make you understand every aspect of human existence.

The Spiritual Classic of the West

Imitation of Christ is said to be the most influential spiritual work in Western Christendom other than the Bible itself. This fresh contemporary translation from the 15th Century Latin edition makes the timeless wisdom of this classic available to modern readers in easily understandable language, while retaining the austerity, simplicity and beauty of the original. Meant to be read in small portions, the Imitation is truly a guide for discovering personal holiness. The Imitation speaks to one's heart, rather than one's mind, and provides one with strength, inspiration and fortitude to grow in one's interior spiritual life. Although written from the presepctive of a mideval monastic, The Imitation contains classic advice for every individual who wishes to develop and grow in faith and personal spirituality.
