very inspiring great book

This book is amazing! I highly recommend it to anyone, even if you are not in education. It is very insightful and will make you laugh, cry and be inspired to change the world and make it a better place!

Freedom Writers

There need to be more books that are inspiring on the subjects of today's young men and women (our future). If we really had more teachers who looked at our young men and women with the same respect at this teacher did, they (kids) might want to do better. They feel better about themselves and therefore, perform better in society. Respect gets respect. I love the book, it's Great! Thank you.

Too bad all teachers don't have this time or energy.

I enjoyed this book. I would have liked to know the gender of the person writing each diary entry. I doubt that most teachers are able to have a family life and give their students this much attention.

Better than the movie.

A very inspirational and eye opening book. I had already seen the movie, but the book had a lot more information. This book gives hope to many children that are being raised in crime infested cities and hope for our society.

What a difference one can make....

It is not enough to say that I enjoyed this book. I was encouraged and uplifted by the stories I read. I would recommend it to all ages, especially the young who sometimes have such a jaded view of the world. I also think this book is a must read for teachers who because of bureaucracy and apathy have lost their zeal for the profession. I admire those students who persevered despite adversity and those teachers, who like Ms. Gruell, continue to care. GREAT BOOK!
