The Hot Zone

As an assignment, I was asked to read this book. To coincide with the studies of Africa we are currently involved in, my teacher had informed us that we were to purchase this book, and begin to read it. Although I was a bit reluctant, I began, and let me tell you it was quite the book! The details portrayed by Richard Preston give a great insight into the world of viruses, particularly the Ebola virus. The book itself could be considered a thriller and maybe even a horror story. Not due to fictional characters who frighten the reader, but an actual hot, amplifying, Level 4 virus that causes those who contract it to bleed out from any holes in their body and 9 out of 10 times, death. If you are interested in a real non-fiction horror story, with scientific references, then I would definitely recommend this book. Even if you are not one who enjoys science-like books, this book grabs you and will not let you go! Don't pass this book up!

This book now has me hooked on ebola!

in mrs.lawwill's seventh grade class, we were assigned to read this book, thinking that this was going to be another boring book i put off reading it until the night before it was due.... i stayed up ALL night because i couldnt put the book down, it had me captured in its exciting thrilling pages. i am now a loyal "follower" of ebola, i read all of the latest stories, and i know want to go into a carrer that works with ebola. i say that if a book can make you want to handle a deadly disease then it is a book that everyone should read!

An exceptionally well-written thriller

Preston really knows how to make the reader realize the true dangers of the exposure of a deadly virus to the human population. This book is based on fact, but in a way it tells a great story of fear in the eyes of those who meddle with danger. The way Ebola virus (and it's relatives) is described throughout the book is very well done, making it seem more of a character than a microcopic virus. Putting the reader in the character's point of view is one of the ultimate goals in literature, and Preston has mastered it in this terrifying true story.

This book is not for those light in the stomach, but if you are interested in the real-life scenarios and consequences of playing with death and Mother Nature, The Hot Zone should be on the top of your list.

best book ever

The Hot Zone" by Richard Preston who is a really good writer wrote this amazing story. This is held in Africa year 1980. The first person who was infected by this virus was Monet. When he went to the hospital, the nurse ask him to sit down and wait for her call. Then, later on while he was waiting, he felt dizzy. Until he start vomiting and his blood start to come out from his eyes, nose and other parts of his body. He got this virus from Kitum Cave in Kenya. Most people who were infected by this virus die in a week or days and very few who survive. These viruses are Ebola Zaire and Marburg. . It was said that the virus came from immigrant monkeys. The viruses also get into Washington DC in Virginia but there is no one who got infected. You will also read about these people whose face is falling off, and black vomiting etc. they also include the pictures of the virus. It is a non fiction book. It gives you a lot of information about these people who were infected and how these doctor help the patients. The bad news is they don't have any cure for this virus yet.

I will recommend this book to all the readers and I assure that you will like it. It's full of thrilling scenes. It is a kind of book that you will never forget, the book that you will always think about. Hope you read it, don't miss it.

Hot Zone ---- Dube's class

I' was assgined to read the Hot Zone for mr. Dube's accelerated 10th grade history class. The Hot Zone Is an awesome book that should have received multiple Awards for skillful penmanship. Mr. Preston fills this book with horrifying details and the scariest part is that it is all truth. The Hot Zone has even been commended by our one and only Mr. King. I love this book and recommend it to anyone who is interested in non-fiction works of literature, except to those who have weak stomachs. The Hot Zone is a tantalizing thriller which I couldn't put down until I'd finished the last page.
