Then all of a sudden EJD tried to make her seem normal so he could sew everything together just in time for the happy ending. Part of what draws me into a story is the complexity of the issues and situations that characters are placed in. I want to see how the characters are going to deal with difficult situations, but the couple doesn't always have to end up together in the end. I appreciate realism. Why can't couples break up sometimes instead of ending up together after everything that has happened tells us that they probably shouldn't be anywhere near each other? When you decide to give a story a happy ending, you should at least make sure that you've given the reader good reason to like the characters enough to want them to end up happily.
In addition, can there be a relationship that doesn't have to skip to the bedroom so quickly and so often? Sex scenes are good but they get tired real quick when the characters lack substance and sex is all that seems to hold them together.
I have enjoyed other books by EJD, but I just wish he'd be a little more adventurous. He could also use a better copy editor since the same spelling/typing errors seem to persist throughout all of his books.
