It was good, but not his typical work
Judging by the title I thought it was going to be some love..some drama with a twist. You know the stories that EJD are famous for, but getting into it I quickly found out it was totally different from anything he has written. It took me a minute to get into it, but I did. Towards the middle the story really got good. Anxiously waiting on the sequel!
Eric's mine never seems to runs dry...
....and how exciting that is. While reading this over the weekend I got say that "
Sleeping with
Strangers
" continues his winning streak, bringing back some characters you've already had a chance to get to know and love--and introducing a brand new bad-boy you'll love as much as you hate.
In here we got hit man
Gideon
who has always been master of his game, with plenty of money, women and power to his credit. But a heated encounter in a London hotel room could lead to his downfall.... With a supporting cast of grifters and killers, broken-hearted squares and streetwalkers, and three very different women who each want to become Gideon's leading lady, this is a world that thrives on the darker passions of revenge and desire.
EJD takes you a journey of people who are in conflict with various emotions within themselves. As one of his characters said 'inner struggle with ying and yang'. He takes you back and lets you see why these people act the way they act. He takes you deep into the thoughts of his characters and their feelings!!! EJD sends you on sexapades, chases, and just plain ol' strolls. There are many high points and many few low points in the book. After each page, I wanted to know more about what was about to happen. Who was out to get who?
This man strives for your attention and makes it just that. I'm already 'lusting' for the sequel and the cliffhanger at the end was great. I completely expected not to have a resolution, that's why this is clearly a two-part novel. A must read if you're a fan. If you're just getting started you need to go back to Thieves Paradise, let that Drive You(Me) Crazy, then and only then are you worthy to Sleep With Strangers...

EJD'S THE BEST
This is a must buy... I am a little biased. I love just about every book he's written.. SWS is fast paced and very lethal. It makes you wonder about that person sitting next to you.
A departure from the typical Dickey, but worth reading
After getting himself involved in the middle of a Tupac/Biggie-like rap artist battle, contract killer
Gideon just
needs some place to lay low while the heat from his last kill cools down. On his flight to London he encounters two beautiful and mysterious women: Mrs. Jones, a soon-to-be-divorcee who can't seem to stop crying, and Lola Mack, an aspiring actress and working masseuse who is flying to London to meet up with her ex. In the aftermath of a bloody hit, Gideon isn't sure who he can trust and is immediately suspicious of both women. He comes to London hoping to escape anyone who might be looking for revenge, but instead finds himself involved in more drama, lies, and intrigue than he'd planned. When Mrs. Jones and Lola keep turning up to ruin his otherwise perfect getaway, everyone becomes a suspect while Gideon tries to figure out who he can trust.
Sleeping with
Strangers will
be an adventure for long-time Dickey fans. It's darker than his other books. The plot is more sinister. The hero is more an anti-hero than someone you'd like to meet. A departure from the expected like this one could spell disaster for a lesser known author, or one not as skilled and talented as Dickey. Lucky for him he had both the skill and talent to pull it off. Sleeping with Strangers was a thrill ride from start to finish. I couldn't wait to see what would happen next. In fact, the worst thing about this book is its unresolved ending and the fact that I'll have to wait four months to find out what happens next.
Though I'm used to the angst-filled dramas that have become Dickey's calling card over the last few years, I enjoyed every moment of this hard-edged thriller. I'd highly recommend it to any Dickey fan who was doubtful if they'd like it--you will, his style and charisma are still there, it's just the genre that has changed. I'd also recommend it to new Dickey readers, though I will admit it isn't his best work. For some of his more gripping fiction, I would suggest checking out Milk in My Coffee or Genevieve.
